As a few of you are aware (due to my omfg my electric drivers seat is amazing thread) ive recently purchased a new car, well its 21 years old this year but still new to me :P

Now to address a few questions I anticipate ^^

Q: why the hell did you buy a 21 year old car?
A: always liked them, decided I was having one before they became so rare that minters cost Starion money.

Q: Price?
A: it cost £1500, however it needs a new water pump fitting which ive ordered from Toyota for *shudder* £590 (I knew the cost before buying the car :P) so in total ~£2100 which is very good considering the condition of the car, you'd be getting a deal if you picked up the more common Type-R version for that.

Q: History?
A: sold in Japan in 1990, imported into the uk in 1998, kept in storage till 2009 when it was sold to its first UK owner, has all history since import, its covered 38k miles.

All in all im very very happy with it and anticipating a lot of fun once the pumps fitted :)

Always loved Supras, will have to buy one someday. What made you decide on an auto over a manual?

Well firstly because the limited spec (which was the highest spec :s) version is more common in auto, and secondly because I only have one hand and only an auto licence, the second thing was prob the decider ^^

Howcome you didn't go for the 2JZ pump and elec fan conversion?

I ran the numbers and the 2JZ pump + pulley + elec fans and shroud + little bits were not that much lower than the cost of the 1JZ pump and it was actually more work than replacing the 1JZ pump is because the JZA70 doesn't have the CDS fans that the MA70 does making it a harder conversion, plus the car is completely stock aside from a turbo timer so wanted to keep it that way.

Why on earth was it in storage for 11 years?

I have no idea tbh lol, I can only assume the original buyer fell through and they couldn't shift it...

is the speedo horizontal ?

Nope but the rev counter is, growing bar kinda like an S2000, the speedo is digital numbers

Can you have a twin turbo manual version?

They are nice looking cars.

Yup

:)

How does it feel in the shifts? Is the auto box sluggish?

Real nice mate, saw the interior and recognised it straight away! Fancied one of these but heard about electrical nightmares with them!

How's the autobox?

The auto box does its job fine :) ive driven much newer cars with much worse ones

It includes a hydraulic pump that drives the radiator fan, totally pointless bit of engineering really.

Its not that pointless, a clutch fan wouldn't fit due to the size of the 1JZ and electric fans wouldn't have met the duty so Toyota came up with the hydrofan system, it won awards at the time.

I want a Black, manual 1JZ powered MK3 Supra so much that it actually hurts. Lovely cars (if 90s Toyotas are your sort of thing)

You're a brave man for sticking with the hydrofan, but best of luck :)

Might be worth looking into 'Suprastick'. It'll add semi auto functionality to the gearbox and allow you to mess around with shift points and other transmission settings. The standard box is nearly infuriating when giving it the beans.

Will try and get more pics up asap

Nice buy there mate :)

Any plans for power mods or keeping it stock?

Thanks :) im planning on keeping it stock as its quite rare to find a good limited spec one that hasn't been covered in glue and crashed into halfords, besides it may have gone on sale in 1989 but 276 bhp and 268 lb/ft torque aren't exactly baby figures for a daily driver even 22 years later, its enough for me :)
