First of all i LOVE these games :D for empire total war i have well over 10 hour gameplay in a week (that may not sound much for you but my average gameplay time of new games only ever reach about 3 hours before i get bored lol) The only problem is the navel battles.. i seriously hate them with a passion. I lose every single one and nm how many training/skirmishs i try. i can never seem win when it gets above 2-3 ships each. Is there anyway i can disable the navel battles? Ive heard that the auto solve battles will be in the games favour 70 to 30. Is this true?? :( thanks for your help :)

What have belly buttons got to do with Total War?

The naval battles are so awful I'd rather stare at my belly button!

(Well they were impossible when it was released anyway - I'd have super-duper fleets wiped out by two fat Spaniards in a rowing boat.

I have played Empire total war and can agree that ship battles are a nightmare. If I remember correctly I would just let my ships auto fire and if they got in range I made sure they boarded therefore taking enemy ships out of the fight.

So if you outnumber your enemy try to get in range and board the enemy ships, it will hold them in place and will give you time to try and board/destroy the other ships.

It also means there is one less friendly ship you have to worry about(If you ignore ships they will just keeping sailing away)

Thanks for the tip! :( allready tryed something similer to that tac, :( Once again i think i just suck so bad at the sea battles that even that doesnt work lol I even had 5 vs 3 and they whipped me easily >< i cant just get the hang of it :'(

just make sure you have 122gun heavy first rates on either side of the enemy ships and they get downed so fast its not even funny. Or on napoleon at least. If you start a grand campaign as britain. Just pimp out nelsons fleet and auto resolve. Hes so badass he always wins. For me anyways.

id stop playing now if i was you, the games rank as anything. wait for shogun 2!

TBH with you if it wasnt for the awful A.I, the Close quater fighting in citys and the pope id still be on TW:medievil 2 lol Wasnt a fan of shogun. Ah well.. ty for the advice everyone :)

Just try to maneuver your ships in such a fashion to take advantage of their full firepower - and the wind - you can whizz past a lot taking mimimum damage if used effectively

a fleet of 2nd and 1st rates with some lighter 3rd-4th rates mixed in, i used to suck at fleet battles but now win almost all of them or atleast kil a greater number before im dead, u need to micro manage every ship, it does get boring tho, i tend to auto resolve more now.

If you cross the path of the enemy, fire a volley of chains to bring their masts down. Also, get your smaller, faster ships behind the enemy and fire at their rear. Manual control is ideal for this. Ideally, use normal cannons at range, focus shots on one side of the ship. The, as you close range, use grape shot to decimate the crew and morale, before boarding and capturing the ship.

I auto resolve all sea warfare but i certainly dont find it a clear cut 70-30 games favour split. Im guessing this is if there is a equal numbers. So i always have one or maybe 2 BIG fleets this way you win them more often.

It has its flaws for sure but it isnt that bad. I happen to like the setting of napoleon and empire better than shogun also and shogun Isnt overflowing with massive new features but then it doesnt need to since it had all the right stuff before. Im looking forward to seeing the AI in Shogun that is for sure but you do get mods for the other 2 to improve AI. Or just decide to use smaller army size than the enemy for a better fight. I will be shocked and very happy if shoguns AI means you will get a "fair" fight with equal numbers
