hi

I have 2 x 5970s in Xfire mode.

I know the new 6990 has been released !

Is there any point if I sell my 2 x 5970s and buy 2 x 6990s ?

Will I visually notice a difference in graphics & speed and framerates? or is it a waste of money and time ?

All advice appreciated.

I know with the 6990 you can run 3D which is an advantage.

Waste of money and time id say, aside from 3d yeah the 6990's should scale better but not to the extent its worth the cost.

You have 2 5970's. You're loaded. Go for it. Waste of money, but YOU ARE RICH or in heavy debt

Nah I,m not rich at all, I just wasted a months wages on my 2x 5970 cards 6 months ago, but im happy with my investment ! even though the cards have dropped in value by 40% ?

I bought mines for £430.00 each...

Also this is the 1st time Ive heard of the 7*** series cards from ATI ! WOW

When are these due to come out then ?

Oviously they will be better than the 6*** series cards?

m8 trust me ull seen virtually no difference in performance. your wasting your cash, your time & your energy for absolutely nothing. no reason to do it.

Its a prediction, they haven't been announced yet.

are u guys kidding 2x 5970 is more then enough for 2 years

hey mate look my 2x 5970 gave me 400 fps now my new 6990s giving me 460 fps

ye cool how much u waste men ?

oooooooo :D more than 400 pounds :D for just 70 fps maxs :D

i would say unless you have a realy big monitor with very high res or three big monitors in eyefinity the upgrading to a 6990 is pretty pointless apart from a slightly bigger e-peen

Probably 800 x 600 :p

Would not suprise me after reading some of the forums.. I saw one other day wanting to replace his GTX 580 for the AMD 6990 and guess what resolution he was using and CPU ? ..... Well he was using a P4 3Ghz with hyperthreading (1st ever cpu to have hyperthreading) and a screen resoution of 1024 x 768 .. All I have to say is well done GPU marketing teams for that sale. Problem in that case was he was told any CPU over 3Ghz will give him full performance from the GTX-580... and to him his system was showing 2 CPUs at 3Ghz ofcourse it was really a single core with hyperthreading enabled.

The Question you need to ask is is the 5970 that you have not performing to the standard that you want and need. If yes then stick with them for now, I'm sure the price of the 6990 will drop pretty quickly like the 6970 has so hold on. If no then get rid and upgrade.

Pics or it didn't happen...I doubt any P4 Mobo's PCI-E ports support the power draw required...

Personally is sell one 5970 whilst the goings good, then hang fire for southern islands hd 7000 series.

Or whatever nvidia come up with.
