Just done a fresh install of everything, and just been looking at the temps.

Idle, my 8800GTS is reporting a temperature of 80c :/

Would it be wise to remove the heatsink, and reseat it with some decent thermal paste?

My only concern is whether it has thermal pads between the ram chips and the heatsink.

Any ideas?

First check to see if there is any dust in the heatsink that blocks airflow.
Was the idle temp lower before?
Are you using a different driver version with a different fan profile?

I haven't checked in a while, but it used to idle at around 50c.

It's the EVGA 8800GTS. Using the latest drivers now, so I presumed the fan profile would be the same still. There's no dust in the cooler :)

Is there something changed after the reinstall, something running in the background causing the card to go to 3D clocks instead of 2D clocks?
Maybe aero or a sidebar widget?
