Can you get a TV card that will receive TV in any way other than a coax cable?

I have just had a plaster sort out 3 rooms after running HDMI and coax cables in the walls, and now my boy want TV in the his game/study room but i dont want to run cables round the house to do it.

The PC in the room in running win 7 ultimate, it must have the same channels and program times as a terrestrial tv.

can you not just use the little aerial that comes with a tv card, with maybe a boost if needed for that 1 pc? not exactly that messy a little aerial.

Those little aerials are next to useless, unless you live near the transmitter.

I can't think of a simple way. Coax works well at what it does and replacing it with another type of lead would drastically reduce your signal. I've never looked into this though but these are my thoughts.

Maybe easier to have a new aerial fitted on the roof and run direct to his room. It'll cost more but will save routing new coax.

oh right, we must be lucky then as we have never had any issues with them.

Did a little searching and there are a few options but they are all more complicated than just running a bit of coax. Such as patching a coax cable into a cat5 lead using adapters and having a freeview box attached elsewhere in the house to coax feed and using a digisender via scart to wirelessly transmit the channel into an analog TV card on your son's PC.

Even in the blurb that came with my tv card it stated that in most cases the included aerial will not be sufficient. You must, as you say, be very lucky and live in a very strong signal area.

just run the coax outside. drill a hole in the wall to run it out. and a hole in the other wall and run it in. then just pin the cable to the outside wall

yep it's that easy that why i have had 3 rooms striped and re-plastered :p, it's a room within a room or a room with no external walls.

Why not use an online service?
can i view all UK channel the say why i would with a normal tv (program times)

little aerial = boooo :D

Why not just use a wireless video sender?

You could connect it to a freeview box that you could put in the loft so that you can get to the aerial quite easily (if that is where your aerial is) and you can even control the freeview box through the video sender.

Take a look at http://www.tvcatchup.com/ see if it does what you need. They is a slight delay but that is to be expected with an online service. I don't use it regularly but I don't have much trouble when I do use it on one of my laptops or iPods.
