Risk and monopoly .. new rules that made it better ..

If you're *not* making deals in monopoly, then it does just become a game of random chance and rolling dice a few hundred times.

Anyone that agrees to a "no rent" agreement with no terms on the length of the agreement is stupid. :p ;)

Another 2 player scrabble alteration is to remove both blanks prior to starting the game and give one to each player to start with. Then during the course of play when it is a players turn, if a player has a letter on their rack that can replace either blank that has been played on the board (not neccesarily the same letter as the blank was declared to be, but any words that it was a part of would need to remain allowable words) then they can pick up the blank and replace it with the appropriate letter from their rack.

Obviously this makes getting bonuses a lot easier, and so it would only be 25 bonus points rather than the normal 50.

We'd do deals in Monopoly all the time. The one I always did was I'd let a player stay rent free on my property but every other time they pass Go they have to give me 150.

when you've got hotels with fines of 1k+ that's a bad deal kill :p

It's OK to do it with one player - especially if that player is looking pretty weak. You're basically doubling your "guaranteed" income, whilst crippling someone elses. They won't be able to invest in new properties, buy houses etc... they will just wither away their money. And by giving them a lifeline of not having to pay when landing on your property, you're kind of drip feeding them and keeping them alive to go around the board one more time and give you your next 150.

but oif they get hotels or a few houses on a stretch you'll be giving them a few hundred- thousand every few turns :p

For monopoly: to spice things up

1- all pety fines (from the cards ect) would go into a pile, if you landed on free parking you would win what ever was in the pile.

2- instead of getting £200 pounds when passing go, roll 1 dice, and get £ per number, roll a 1 = £100 or 6 = £600, it would make people spend alittle more ;)

I think people are getting confused a bit here about whats being hated. I myself despise the deals where you make a no rent agreement or some such, and have had games ruined by one or two people who are completely immune to any rent thanks to their lover owning half the board.
As for property selling itself, this I agree with. I always like to sell or exchange property based on desire value or other properties I want.
Plus yes my games always do the tax in the middle thing. It can help someone out a lot and change the game, but its still enjoyable.

Yea, that's what I meant. You can obviously still sell properties to other players, but the money has to be stumped up there and then and you can't have little agreements like "No rent if I land on any of your properties, and I'll knock £500 off the price". I get very tetchy when playing board games, I like to do things properly.
