Fuming right now ...

I was joking a bit :p something like "your sign doesn't cover you mate, I know what I'm talking about so just settle with me now unless you want me to take it further?"

I'd be fuming too. Surely they should just pay you for your losses. Go through small claims court as other have advised to recover your losses.

go in, be nice, ask for £100 for it (see why in a moment). obviously make sure you still have the ticket.

if that doesn't work then get nasty and threaten with legal action. They won't want that. You might end up meeting half way or something and getting £50 or so, which is better than nothing and close to the actual value. if you went in at £70 you might only end up getting £35. you might want to be able to say "ok... meet me half way then", which sounds like you're cutting them some slack.

point is, don't go in there with legal action first. no point. legal action would be slow and painful. you might end up having to prove that the ticket is legit, that it corresponds to the actual jacket, the actual date you were there etc. and you might not be able to prove the value of the jacket... all sorts of issues.

good luck :)

I was going to say this, but I have a feeling the OP has already told them the jacket was worth £70.. So that's going to make him look like he's milking it.

But in future ^^ there's always room to barter!

I don't think i mentioned the price at the time to busy fuming at the girl and bouncers how the owe me money now if they don't find it.

You get given a tag thing which I gave to the girl when wanting my jacket back so I don't have that no more.

mate, sorry to say it but that was very foolish. ;/ you've no proof whatsoever now that you were even there, or that you even gave them your jacket at all. it's all going to come down to how honest and flexible the bar manager(s) are and if they remember you that night... i don't fancy your chances to be honest. best of luck though.

They have my details and it's on CCTV, they have a camera for the cloak room. I expect a call by mid day or I'll be going down there later.

it was on the real hustle. that sign doesn't mean jack. only there to deter you not to take things further.

Tell the manager that you're a regular at the bar, you don't want any ill-feeling, and that you'd appreciate his help with this. If he refuses then say well i know my rights, your sign doesn't waive you of your responsibility legally and you'll be forced to take them to small claims court which could be bad publicity for the pub.
Also if he refuses, then he loses a customer...and his friends, which is probably worth more than £70 (depending on how often you frequent the place), tell him that!
Then........punch him in the ovaries..... :D

all of you saying "your sign doesn't waive you of your responsibility legally" can you abck that up with a previous case etc?

cause it's possible that this has happened before and that they found out it does indeed cover them.

This is why I don't go out with expensive jackets, there's so many ways of losing it.

Do what OP did, then - go out in a cheap jacket :D

sorry.

Good advice, but leave peoples' ovaries out of it.
