The wrong car purchased

Investment tips

Finance

I can't abide this business of systematically destroying someones car purchase but even I've found this amusing.

I'd like to know how Mikehow is buying this silver - a stock broker? an ETF perhaps? from a *****?

**** all wrong with ****** :)

Whats the worst they can do if you just cancel end of?

You need to rethink this mate, the car is too dear to start and now you have lumbered yourself up with a ropey bit of finance.

agreed, do whatever you can to run away from this deal, I don't know your personal circumstances but I can have a pretty good guess at them given the car choice/price, finance option, monthly insurance etc... all that screams out that you have a limited disposable income, which is precisely what you don't want if you purchase a high mileage 5 series.

heed this, do whatever you can to get out of the deal, if you manage it then breath a sigh of relief and buy a sensible car, 10k will get you a lot of motor.

Wes I assumed you'd take it out on finance and didn't really want to bring it up incase of the backlash you got. I know these ****ers can be harsh ****s!!! :D

This car is going to cost you a fortune.

I understand what you say. But like I say, the deal is done, the finance had gone ahead, how can I back out. I'm in 2 minds about it now. The only way I see I can back out is if the car is not fit for purpose. Theres no cooling off period so I have no protection. Could be an expensive lesson!

I still love the car, and I won't be disappointed. It's gorgeous. Maybe I haven't researched enough on it and realised how much things cost when they go wrong. I suppose I followed my heart And not my head, and chances are, it will be fine, but it might not be.

Im honestly still thinking point blank say you have changed your mind, finance co's want good customers, not reluctant heroes.

Whats the worst they will do, its going to be 100 quid in admin fees isnt it.

My apologies, with every other topic floating around in this thread I felt it was lacking a little racism. :)

Don't all finance agreements have to have a 14 day cooling off period or have I made that up?

This is what I thought but I think there is some issue if you agree there and then in the showroom or something - you don't get the cooling off notice.

I don't see the point in buying a BMW these days if its assume that over a certain age and mileage its nothing more than financial suicide. If thats the case I'm quite happy to continue buying american and japanese rubbish.

No, only if the agreement is signed away from the dealers usual place of business.

What about Section 68 CCA 1974?

Edit: I'm ignoring section 67.... Nevermind.

If you're happy with the car, then ignore all the negative comments. People on here do tend to have a habit of picking fault with what anyone has bought from my experience of reading this forum :p

It's not that people in here actively look for fault with people's purchases. It's usually that people come in here asking for advice which is then ignored or they come in here without asking for any advice but without any knowledge either.

The difference with OCUK Motors and most other forums is that if you buy a lemon or get a rough deal, people here are prepared to tell you what a tit you've been.

It's never personal (unless it's MikeHiow ;)).

It's called speaking from experience, we don't try to polish turds here or pat each other on the back when clearly words in shells are required.

If I want a genuine opinion I'll post here, if I want people to make me feel good about myself and my potentially misguided car choice I'll post on an owners forum

What car should he have bought then? (didn't see the previous threads)

Well some of the suggestions in this thread were another (newer) Mondeo or a Volvo S60 which both seem like reasonable suggestions.

To be honest, my comment wasn't necessary a case of 'buy x instead of y' it was more a case of 'have you really thought this through, are you sure it's the best idea' kind of thing.

It's happened more than once on these boards; someone comes in asking about a car, everyone says it's a bad idea, they buy it anyway, a few months later they come back posting about something going wrong or how they have to sell it because they can't afford to repair/run/keep it. Seeing it happen time and again doesn't really improve the feeling of sympathy for the latest case. (Without trying to sound like too much of a ****).

*edit* I think the other thing in this instance is that Wez asked for suggestions at 20:00 on Wednesday and then went out and bought the E60 on Thursday despite everyone telling him it was a bad idea. That's got to be a record even for OCUK!

WE WANT TO HELP HIM!

WE DO NOT WANT THIS PERSON TO MAKE A BAD CHOICE THAT WIL COST HIM MONEY AND HEARTACHE!!

He asks for advice, we dont give it to feel big, we give it so that he doesnt make the same mistakes we have all made in the past.
