Hi have just upgraded from a 5770 to a 6950 that i got from here a few days ago.

The card is fine until under load then on almost every game it starts flickering, not on and off, but with like transparent lines refreshing down the screen (hard to explain).

It only does this once its under load its fine otherwise.

My first thought was drivers, it was running on the latest 11.2 drivers, so i ran driversweep and set them to 10.5a - still the same, i swept the drivers again and used the off the cd drivers but its still the same.

I also at the moment have a VGA cable plugged into the DVI slot with an adapter (A DVI-D cable is on the way) but if this does not help, does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Ok give me a couple of minutes ill try to capture some.

If i have to send it back does it take a while? Do i send it to Overclockers or do i have to send it to MSI directly?

Overclockers, or you could ask them how they deal with MSI cards, depending on the problem/age sometimes you'd replace out of stock, sometimes it will go back to MSI for a replacement, so might be quicker to send it direct to MSI.

Anyway, what kind of flickering is it, is it the card dropping into UVD speeds which unfortunately they have a habit of doing in some situations.

If I leave a net page with a video/stream open, if its flash accelerated the card wants to induce its 500/900 UVD clocks, while the game wants full speed clocks, and the screen will have flickering as the memory changes speed.

I'd suggest gpu-z/msi afterburner on in background, alt tab out of game when its been flickering and check the graphs to see if clockspeed/mem speed have been going up and down, if so thats your cause.

Ok i just did a few tests with my HDTV and its quite interesting.

First i tried the HDTV with the current setup i have to my monitor so the VGA/DVI converter to VGA on the TV - and i got the same flickering (tried a few resolutions)

Then i tried a HDMI cable from the GPU straight to the HDTV and, it was gone! I tried in 1920x1080 (what i normally use) and a few other resolutions and it was gone?

So it looks like it "might" be the dvi/vga converter causing it, i'll know for sure tmw when i can test the 24 pin DVI-D cable.

Thanks for all the help anyway!

Now the card is making the monitor go black while i am playing certain games and then the fans hit 100% and the only way to stop it is to unplug the PC. I think its safe to say its faulty.

The previous glitch its just refresh lines about 5cm apart mostly transparent, but running from top to bottom right across the screen but dark enough that i can see them.

I'm going to try the 11.4 beta drivers, but after the HDTV test i am sure its the vga/dvi adaptor, i'll know for sure when i get the dvi cable, but that does not explain the black screen and 100% fan issue
