Favourite Guitar Solo's?

Someone mentioned Halo by Machine Head a bit earlier on in the thread. AMAZING song if I may add. :D

Also again liking My Curse by Killswitch Engage and Stricken by Disturbed.

I was thinking about guitar solos today.

Probably my all time favourite is from a live performance by the Doobie Brothers in 1977.

The solo is by Jeff "Skunk" Baxter and starts from around 2:05. It's only short.

I'm not really sure why it's my favourite. I think it's because it's meant to be a sax solo, Jeff Baxter is a cool looking dude, and the whole performance has so much energy in general. I love the outro at 2:32.

My guitar ability extends to being able to play "Live Forever" so I can't tell you whether it's technically any good, but I can tell you I think it's cool :o

Meh, I might as well post again.

The greatest guitar solo of all time begins at 6:32 in the following video:

But you should listen to the whole track to get the most out of it. George Benson at his absolute best (and that is some best ;)).

Tough call, I'll limit myself to one browse through my iTunes.

Hotel California - The Eagles
Get the Funk Out - Extreme
Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N' Roses
Don't Look Back In Anger - Oasis (candidate for the most perfect solo ever, shockingly overlooked!)
Three Times Rana (Live intro) - Paul Gilbert (despite the Pablo being my favourite, I can't think of any other obvious moments)
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
Bad Horsie - Steve Vai

God damn this man has superb taste

This is likely to be a case of 'everybody posts, nobody reads' but I'll give mine for what it's worth. There are some very, very boring and clichéd solos here.

Naffa, I liked yours but I'm not really a fan of jazz, so to me it didn't sound too special.

For what it's worth, mine are

Coroner - Sirens
Savatage - Legions
Fates Warning - A World Apart
Opeth - A Fair Judgement
Conception - In Your Multitude.

A good solo is not about technicality but emotion. A simple solo stuffed full of emotion can be way better than ****-filled twiddling by Spastic Ink or Behold...the Arctopus.

The best solo I have ever come across in metal is from Coroner - Serpent Moves which combines melody, emotion and technicality. It starts round 3.10:

You people mentioning Oasis in a guitar solos thread should be shot in the face :p

Couldn't agree more.

God damn this man has superb taste

No. No, he doesn't. He has standard knowledge of radio-orientated rock without doing one shred of research into anything beyond it. Those solos are tepid at best, as much as I like Nuno Bettencourt.

EDIT - Oh it's you! Haha, #planbetter
