Earthquake in Japan....9.0...ouch!

As interesting/terrible as the images are I don't like that they keep showing images as if they're what's happening now (when they're daylight images), it's dark in Japan, and will be until about 9pm our time.

At north Japan where the worst of the damage is, it would essentially just be showing a black screen, there's obviously no electricity, so how are they meant to see anything? The also can't travel there very quickly, obviously, to get shots.

This is probably going to be more devastating to the country than the 2 nuclear bombs dropped on them. I hope the UK are able to give some aid to them, I know Japan is the 3rd largest economy but their infrastructure and ability to rescue citizens must be severely impacted. :(

Good point. We won't know the true extent of the damage till the morning.

Obama has just said that there is an aircraft carrier off the coast and another is already on its way.

Its more flexibility than strength (reed that bends in the wind isn't easily broken and all that)... pretty impressive engineering.

That's good, I know there are thousands of american military based in Japan so hopefully they will be helping as well.

Well of course there is the possiblity of american service men missing too. The embassy has apparently relocated and are attempting to account for all the navy/army personel in the country.
