Hi there, I am wondering if any of you fine people can help.

I am trying to jailbreak apple tv2 with greenpoison rc6.1 and it just isn't playing ball. I have followed all instructions and read a few guides on the net etc.

Getting the ATV into dfu is very hit and miss, (once in every 5 or 6 attempts) and getting the actual jailbreak to suceed is even more hit and miss (75% of the time it fails)

I have had the message "jailbreak complete" a few times (and have left it plugged into usb for much more than the 40 secs recommended before clicking quit after a "successful" jailbreak) but whenever i plug it into the tv I just get the message hdmi 1 out of range, so I have tried leaving it and coming back to it and it was still like that, after resetting the apple tv it just has the normal apple software on it, no sign of the greenpoison logo or anything else not there before

the software version on the ATV under settings > General says 4.2 (2060)

Am i doing something wrong or can this software version not be jailbroken?

I am doing this from a windows xp laptop ( I dont have a mac yet) and have tried it from my windows 7 desktop downstairs as well (I initially thought it was loosing the jailbreak when i unplugged it to take it back upstairs)

Any help would be much appreciated :)

It may be because your Apple TV is running iOS 4.3. For some reason the Apple TV's software version show .1 below what it actually is. E.g. I'm running 4.2.1 Jailbroken and it shows as 4.1.1 in About.

The only jailbreak for Apple TV 2 running iOS 4.2(4.3) is Seas0nPass from FireCore that is only tethered. See LINK.

cheers for the reply, I didn't think ATV2 was covered in iOS 4.3

looks like I am going to have to wait for another jailbreak :(

edit: just read this from macrumours

Update: The iOS 4.3 update is the same 8F191 build that was seeded to developers last week as the golden master build. A separate 8F191 build has also been posted for the three new iPad models (Wi-Fi and two 3G models) being released on Friday.

Apple has also released an Apple TV software update known as iOS 4.3 Build 8F191m, although it it reportedly registering as software version 4.2 on Apple TVs themselves, similar to earlier versions where software version numbers have been one behind the corresponding iOS versions.

how long does it normally take them to release untethered version after release of the updated iOS?
