HIS 6990 IS HERE!!

Im not so sure about the coolermaster, heard ripple on the line isn't very good, within tolerance just about.

Personally i would have chosen the corsair

just to let you know, corsair were having quality issues with their psu making coil/cpacitor noise at idle and also during load.

a quick question at 6990 users, are these quite at idle?

thanks

The corsair is top notch but you have to pay for top notch.. the Cooler Master Silent Pro 1200W has small amounts of ripple in the +3V3,+5V0,-12V0,+5VSB to meet the requirements of the ATX12V V2.2 specification... Voltages that are now never put under heavy load due to how hardware inside the pc has changed..

Check what 3DGAMEMAN says about it. Also remember the price difference between the corsair and the coolmaster is £100.. Also the coolmaster has a 5 year warranty and the corsair a 7 year warranty..

More on the ATX Standard for PSU's

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATX

Coolermasters page for that PSU.

http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6663 (it states it's Intel Compliant ATX12V v 2.3 and EPS version 2.91 compliant).

Also I don't think any PSU maker can sell or label a PSU ATX certified to any standard unless it really meets them.. So i'm guessing the PSU Overclockersclub.com got was either faulty or tested wrong and remember motherboards have AC noise/ripple suppression filtering built in so would not matter anyway if the ripple went out of ATX specs slightly because the motherboards would correct for it...

Also cluboc.net's testing shows the voltages are solid.

http://www.cluboc.net/reviews/power/coolermaster/silent_pro_1200/p1.asp

This is the coolmaster 850w version of the 1200w tested by hardwaresecrets and shows the ripple is tiny and within spec again.. for the 850w version of the same PSU.. SO I can't see their top of the range 1200W would fail as Overclockersclub.com showed .. so something fishy in their testing or the PSU they had to to test on.

My money would still be on the Cooler Master Silent Pro 1200W.. I would rather have a PSU that can power my system and has lots of Multiple Protection Design built in like,
Over Voltage Protection (OVP), Under Voltage Protection (UVP), Over Power Protection (OPP), Over Temperature Protection (OTP), Short Circuit Protection (SCP) and Over Current Protection (OCP). For a £100 less and has a 5 year warranty so if it did fail they would replace it and I don't know many people that have a PSU for over 5 years.

oh well i ordered the Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200...

i'm giving Corsair psus one last chance. if this one dies and takes my system, they will get the bill for it.

I'm surprised people still buy anything but the Antec HCP-1200. It has been reviewed/proven to easily be the best PSU for the money. Plus multiple rail OCP is safer for your system components versus single rail PSUs.

All psu's can die, just corsairs seem to be the best of the bunch.

Had an enermax galaxy dxx go bang once, didn't take the rest of my system mind.

I have a tagan 1100w bz psu and im quite happy with it, seems decent enough.

The soldering on the galaxy was a bit shocking mind, i know as i solder pcb's on the odd occasion.

Im sure some antec use printed pcb's which is a rarity iirc?

The Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 is not made by the same manufacture as the rest so lets not jump the gun.

You say that like corsair psu's are crap bar the professional series. The hx750 i have as far as i know is good quality as all the hx series are because they are always recommended.

I would like you to find a quote from me saying that because its others in this thread saying so & not me.

This thread is the first that i have seen people complain about them.

Far to many presumptions on your part.

I just quoted you saying the proffesional series are made by others so don't jump the gun. Does this mean the ones not made by the other group ain't up to scratch thats just how it looked to me.

No it means that if there is an issue with the others in the group then don't jump to conclusions about the 1200 because its made by someone is else.
