P90X - Anyone done it?

Just did my day 1 today, showed me how unfit I am, and yes some people say fad but for those like me who need a bit of structure to follow I think I'm going to enjoy it, I'll at least do it once then move onto more traditional workouts :)

Not done it, but if it gets you working out and you enjoy it then go for it.

People will say go to a gym blah blah, but least you are exercising which is a good thing :)

My old housemate used to swear by the P90X workout.. I never bothered and signed up at the gym! I do use the ab/core workout from it though a couple times a week as I think that one is good.

Agreed. I'd much rather go to a gym and lift weights, but anything that gets people into a solid, regular routine can only be a good thing.:)

Yah the Gym would be nice but I travel between London, Prague and Sheffield plus other places so I do not want to pay for a gym membership that I will never really use.

If you need to do it in multiple locations then yeah you are gonna suffer in terms of gym memberships.
Anything that let's you get your heart rate up or meet some resistance will be good.

Sorry to bump this old thread(sorta). But a mate of mine at uni told me about this work out and after a quick search online it looks like its needs abit of personal equipment to get going.

My current situation is, im at uni and i finish this comming week (im 3rd year), im looking to stay at my uni house (in leicester) till i go home again at the end of june. However I dont really want to pay a sub to the uni gym i'd rather do something like the p90x at home. Is there anyway to do the work outs without the equipment (i.e. the free weights could be replaced with cans of beans? lol) Seeing as im moving back home to sunny wiltshire at the end of june im going to be shifting all my stuff and wont really have room to shift this extra work out gear (I know its sounds abit funny).

Any ideas?

cheers

From what I remember when my housemate did it, it didn't need much kit to do.. I remember him getting a pull up bar for it for about £20 on Ebay.

Just need a pull up bar and some db's really. Push up bars are handy too. It's great for a home workout, you need to be fairly fit to start it though. The plyometrics workout is killer.

Or you could sign up to 'thegym' behind the highcross. £16 per month, no contract, no sign up fee, open 24/7 with unlimited access. So 2 months membership, £32 and access to all the kit you want.

well once ive talked to my mate whos current doing this, in abit more depth. I'll decide if i take this up fully, or work out a different diet and just go jogging instead. I havent done any exercise really since sept :O. Im currently 6ft 4 and 21stone :o.. I need to focus on burning fat as much as possible, then work on retoning my muscles.

I'm 6ft 5 and 17 stone and I feel very heavy!

I'd do what you can if you have access to p90x, some of the exercises will need weights but just do them with what you can, your heart rate will already be up from all the other exercises especially when you're 21 stone. Just get doing something asap and the weight will fall off.

I'm working through rushfit atm and I think it's great, you do need some dumb bells to get the most out of it but the bodyweight exercises can be hard!

email me through trust and I'll send you some word docs with bodyweight exercises that I found somewhere.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but I wanted to share my opinions here, and I didn't want to start yet another P90X thread! :)

I've just started P90X (day 6 of week 1 tomorrow) and I have to admit, I am enjoying it!
I know it's pretty basic stuff, but it gets me doing exercise, and different exercise at that! I the gym I only ever used to like going on the cross-trainer, and that was it. This has got me doing all sorts off stuff I wouldn't have ever imagined (including the yoga!).

Tony can be a bit cheesy, but it motivates me. I don't think people should knock it as much as some do, at the end of the day, it's getting people fit :) I'm not expecting to become drastically ripped through it, I just want to be fit like I used to be (I used to swim a lot before coming to uni, since then I've piled on weight). I'm not following the nutrition plan, just eating healthily, and the way I want to continue eating. Also, no supplements (except for my multi-vitamin tablet).

After almost a week, I feel remarkably good, a lot better than I would feel it I went to the gym for 6 days in a row at least!

Gym > P90X > Nothing

i would choose a gym over this any day of the week

That's your choice. At the end of the day, doing this is better than nothing right?! It's not THAT bad a workout. I don't know why people knock it :p I didn't even pay for it, borrowed it from a friend, so s'all good!

Overall, I'm burning roughly the same calories doing the workouts on P90X that I would at the gym, just I'm having more fun doing this.
