I've been connected now for about a 5 days & the line stats seem low, on connection day I was 4096 down 490 up

today I'm 6010 down & 796 up

The router is one of the dlinks which I dont really like but its free

line stats are 42db line attenuation with an 8db noise margin

what do you think the possiblities of it going higher? I forgot to mention I had a new line installed from the pole to the house & a nice new box on the wall.

Many thanx in advance

Kev

You should get a lot higher (at a guess, between 8 and 10Mb) with a line attenuation like that.

I get 6496kbps / 896kbps with an attenuation of 46/49

Ring Sky Technical support, and ask them to re-profile the line to get your best speed.

I'll geta copy of the line stats from teh router later as I aint moved into the house yet teh router is still on

You should get at least a bit more if your noise margin is 8dB. Hard to say, though, as there's quite a lot of variation between lines of the same attenuation. We have 47dB attenuation and the line won't do more than 4Mbps, for instance.

current stats as of this evening

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6140 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 43.0db 22.5db
Noise Margin 4.1db 14.5db

My sky connection with a current uptime of 936hrs is;

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6670 kbps 798 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.5 db 22.6 db
Noise Margin 8.1 db 15.9 db

So it all seems abit random unless i call sky to see if they can re-profile me?

You can get a much higher upstream if you call them.

@ OP - They will profile your line, even if you haven't finished DLM, but it depends on who you speak to as it's not official policy (to turn off DLM during the training period).

Greetings Folks,

official policy is dlm has to run at least once,
If its removed from a line and a new profile set the agent must start dlm on the line again.

Also official policy say if a caller does not want dlm at all the agent has to advise of the upside to it and if you still dont want it a team leader is due to take over the call and again advise of the upside to dlm.

As for the upstream this depends on if you are on dslam or isam,
isam has set profile for agents to pick from and so picking a higher upstream might also push the downstream and so cause errors on the line.

Dlm should only take 10 - 15 days and so its best to just wait for this to be over.

You won't get hugely higher 42db attenuation here - if I sync in the morning can get 10MBit but a good chance line will drop 1-2 times in the evening and stabalise at around 8Mbit... and tbh right now its not doing so good (20:40) 8218 Sync 0.8db SNR - if it wasn't for the fact I'm using a DG834 it would probably have dropped and stabalised at about 6.5MBit now.
