Royal Visit to Ireland, this was always going to happen. . .

Indeed it's pretty sad at the end of the day. I know a few people who are like "Burnbank Loyal"

Yeah, their all obsessed, inbred nutters, all about their 'religious cult'. I drive past the local Church on a Sunday, I've yet to see a single one of them attend Sunday service :p

But, I wont get started on all that again.... :D

That pub is owned by a celtic players dad if the metro is to be believed?

I hate the Ireland thing simply because in the west of scotland people seem to think they are in Ireland.

I was waiting on my mate picking me up from Larkhall once and a car full of scum started chanting the famines over it's time to go home to me....could they smell the fact that I'm a catholic I wonder?

I saw a sticker on the Hovis factory, opposite The Louden (infamous Rangers pub, in the middle of a Celtic area), on Duke Street saying "The Famines over, time to go home" and had the P&O logo in the middle of it.

this Irish/Welsh/Scottish/English hatred is really ****ing boring these days.
The English never had any problem with the other home nations, it is some of the other lot who seem to be jealous of the greater success England has had

There was a very big call-in radio show here in Ireland discussing this today (Joe Duffy) and 90% of the calls were from Irish people condemning this sign. Ireland has mostly moved on from this sort of rubbish. There is always a publicity seeking idiot to do the opposite though.

I don't understand their resentment over a ceremonial head of state, when they're quite happy to welcome British politicians who've been the commanding force of British troops since the glorious revolution and the passing of the bill of rights. But hey ho.

"THE QUEEN IS BANNED FROM HERE, **** BRITAIN"

"ALL PREMIERSHIP GAMES SHOW LIVE ON SKY TV"
:D

Still remember that picture with that guy holding that 'get foreign sports out of Ireland' placard (it was in regards to a Gaelic football stadium being used for soccer or rugby games)... while wearing a Celtic jersey. :p

Kind of ironic given that most Protestants living in Ireland would probably be descended from Scots, and the name of the country itself is derived from an Irish tribe (i.e. the definition of the two countries has always been blurred).

:feignedshock:

Who cares?

They are supported of the backs of tax payers,

You've just agreed that the country makes a huge profit from them (which it does). So you're contradicting yourself immediately, which hardly adds to your credibility.

If I take £100 off you, give you £5 back and make £250 from charging people to see you, are you living off my back?

Those are reasonable ratios - the state takes £200M a year off the royal family, the civil list is £7.9M and £500M for money brought in from other countries by royalty-related tourism is a low estimate.

Most of the civil list pays people's wages, too. The royal family is a goldmine of profit for the UK.

and fundementally stand for something that negates equality.

Or promotes stability, depending on how you look at it.

The last time a UK monarch formally exercised power was in 1708. The last time a UK monarch actually exercised power was in 1832 and that was to reform democracy and lay the foundations for universal suffrage (he forced the Great Reform Act through by coercing the house of lords).

Rich people negate equality a lot more than the royal family does. Shall we get rid of them too?

The Royal family is a blight on progress.

Cobblers.

Even if we didn't make a fortune off them, I'd still vote to keep them. We shouldn't be so quick to throw away our history and culture for no reason.

lol how much wrong can you speak. They are essentially a business bringing in many millions in profit from foreign tourism. A blight on progress? what?
