Orange Signal Problems..

Sigh.. my problems with this joke of a company still have not stopped. My latest issue is a massive delay in someone sending a text and me receiving it, an example today would be said person sending it at 2pm and me only receiving it at 7pm! Strangely, I received about 5 texts from various people when I moved the phone to a particular, random area of the house close to a window.. Where the phone is for the majority of the day there is decent signal, around 3 or 4 bars? And the phone always has signal in the house, even if it is very weak sometimes. Any ideas on how I can solve this?

Humm I get that some days - i'd be tempted to blame the phone though. Even if my phone is on full bars it just decides to reject calls when it feels like it.

And? Are you getting the same problem on both? Have you done a coverage check, a lot of places show 'lower signal indoors' etc.
Have you rang orange about it today?
Orange coverage checker tells me that it should be excellent for everything. T-Mobile has never been displayed on the phone whilst in the house, I presume this because the orange signal is supposedly stronger.
Nope I haven't rang orange , I may pop into the orange shop tomorrow though.

SMS delay happens for a whole bunch of reasons (handset locking out receiving stuff if it's sending data constantly, network timeslots too busy on the mast end, SMS centre not having a good day) so it's really impossible to tell what's causing it just in one day. Does this happen often? Did you reboot recently and see if it still happens?

Seems to be happening to often for my liking, like every other day for 2 weeks now?

This has happened again, sure enough I turned the phone on and off and the text came through.. off to the orange shop I go.

My orange mobile is playing up with texts too today. The girlfriend has sent me 5 or so messages which all say pending on her phone and she is on Vodaphone.
She is recieving the texts I send her but I cant get her replies

Just got mum to text me from O2 mobile and havent go that either.

Strangely enough the text from orange telling me my bill is ready for payment has come through.......

Edit: Chives have you tried this from another forum?

"Right spoke to Orange it would appear my mobile has sort of been knocked off the network, could have been as a result of a local mast going down.

To fix this on my Nokia I went to Settings > Phone Settings > Operator Selection > Manual > let it search and select one your not on > then do it again and select Orange, it then re connected my mobile back into the network properly.

All working ok now."
I did it and got all my messages from earlier!

Same problems here mate, but my internet stopped working even on gprs. I've force connected to t mob for now and ill try oranges line again later today and see what happens.

Lots of people complaining about Orange and T-Mobile SMS messages today on Twitter, including Paul O'Brien from Modaco. Maybe they're doing something to the two platforms as part of the merger.

Yes that's pretty much what the orange shop staff said, apparently Orange & T-Mobile are reorganising there south wales operations and it could be weeks before it is stable again, great Orange just great.
I can't wait till the end of this contract, never going with Orange again.

Quick update, Mines back to normal now (for the minute!)

Any luck with yours Chives?

If what they said about South Wales be reorganised it must have been interfering with the South East of England too!!!

Been getting a lot of people coming into the shop reporting issues recently, not as much as if a mast was down but annoying things like texts, and phones not updating that a voicemail has been recieved etc.

Nothing has been communicated to us at all about it, but it's probably because (as you say above) they've been playing with the masts as part of the merger. Would make sense as they're planning on turning on 3G signal sharing in a couple of months and they're also working on getting the 2G signal sharing seamless.

Wales and SE are 2 different geographic zoned areas in Orange, they shouldn't interfere with each other but I realise this offers no help to you guys. The 2G issue I am told through a friend (big speculation time - this is all my opinion or rumour) is partially down to data load from 2G only data devices (RIM are such cheap ******** they sell 8520s without 3G radios, the 8520 is currently the best payg handset and is sold with Blackberry Internet Service... you can see where this is going) and partially because they are re-forging the networks into one giant beast.

The first thing you should do if you have troubles is reboot the phone. This will gracefully disconnect you from the network, re-link you to it and re-enable all services you have allocated to you. Flight mode will do the same thing. The SMS issue is likely because of the network share too, the SMSC (google it if you like technical stuff) handles this sort of thing, they might have been making changes to it for the radio network joining.

This is correct not long left now ;)

Seems to be a lot better now, although it has done this before and then become very unstable again, so we'll see ;)

ooo, do tell us more ;) if after this merger Orange impress me with there 3G network merger with T-Mobile then they may keep my money.
