When I got my PC last May Fallout 3 was the game I wanted to play. I bought a few others but they were just going to play 2nd fiddle to FO3. So when it came to loading it up for the first time and spending a weekend on it I was gutted, I thought it was one of the biggest lumps of crap I’d ever installed and I promptly abandoned it for what turned out to be my favourite two games ever Mass Effect 1 & 2.

9 months on and I decide what the heck I’ll give it another try. Got a couple of mods on it, NMC s Texture Pac and EVE – Energy Visuals Enhanced and this time I didn’t rush to do things. I just did the quests, thought about how I would do them and it came a lot easier, I’m about 9 hours in now and absolutely loving it! Great story, gameplay and with NMCs it’s jaw droppingly beautiful. I can’t bring myself to say it’s better than the MEs but it’s as good.

My favorite moment so far has been while doing the fire ant quest and having been set on fire, using VATs and seeing my character letting rip with the minigun in slow motion while covered in fire.

So all in all I'd like to say soz to Bethesda and what a great game Fallout 3 is.

P.S Thanks aswell to the guys who made MNCs and EVE:p

What story?

I only enjoyed the start and that mission much later on. When you do it, you will know the one I mean.

The rest was only marginally less boring than Oblivion, and no where near as great an experience as ME1 and 2 were.

great game and NV is even better imo :)

Bwahaha.... oh wait you were serious.

The real question is why are you using the Minigun unless you've installed the Fallout Wanderers Edition. Big Guns suck ass in vanilla and no VATS quite compares to a slow-mo Lincolns Repeater bullet being tracked into the enemies head where upon Bloody Mess makes it exploded into giblets in a completely ridiculous way.

Hmm, fallout wanderers edition, I'll have a look at that tonight, thank you my man!

Not got a Lincolns Repeater yet, will have a look out for one when I'm out n' about. The minigun looks really dramatic when used in VATS, was complete overkill for a Fire Ant Worker but still looked pretty damn good.;)

? I like both games but NV had far more side quests and felt more like a proper RPG, much more freedom.

I was under the impression every one else thought the exact opposite... NV is basically a rushed expansion for FO3 that removed more than it added and offered much less in a smaller world.

Well an Ant Worker is a very weak enemy. Big Guns tends to be really underwhelming in VATs... firing very small bursts when you can just unleash hell (for minute amounts of damage given the amount of bullets fired). FWE made automatic weapons actually feel powerful so mowing things down with an assault rifle or a minigun isn't ridiculously weak compared with a sneak attack headshot.

Don't bother. It's a bit of an immersion breaker when you're lazer and plasma rifles pales in comparison to old Abe's wonder cannon. Put enough points into small arms and you will sail through the game using laser rifles. Heavy weapons are too mucb of a pain in the ass imho.

No thanks from me - FO3 doesn't work on my PC at all. It just crashes after the intro sequence.

Quite how companies are allowed to release shoddy work like this is beyond me, they should be fined for it.

The cannot possibly test every conceivable hardware and software configuration their games will play on. It works for the vast majority of people.

I know they can't test it on everything, but I totally agree with tute.
When I got to the dream sequence(can't remember the name of the level) with my hd4870, I had to take my saves to my mates pc which had a 8600gt and finish that level as I got nothing but constant crashes. After that level, the game played fine most of the time until I got to Point Lookout and then I just gave up.

I got F3NV on hoping things were better, but I'm not too impressed with stability on it either which has really killed my interest in the series.:(

ME1 was a little too linear for my liking. I loved exploring the planets but shame the didn't capatilise on that. Havn't played ME2 and in no rush to either.

Are you kidding? Exploring the dull, lifeless planets was almost as boring as planet scanning on ME2 (which you can thankfully avoid by editing your mineral amounts).

Fallout III > Mass Effect and Mass Effect II. works well on my PC with no issues, hell not even the 'purely hated' Games for Windows Live has ever caused me any trouble, maybe Im lucky...? obviously not considering Steam does nothing but break all the time, hence the dislike for Steam and the like for Games for Windows! the difference in visuals between vanilla Fallout III on consoles vs. PC is staggering enough, add some mods and the game takes on a whole new lease of life, one of the best games I've played in a long time if you take the time to enjoy the whole spectrum of gameplay offered. ;)

Which is why I said they should've capatilised on it.

If you found that boring, not got much to say to that.

My major problem was that it felt empty, like getting a Kinder suprise and biting into it only to discover the surprise was missing.

Yeah FO3 was good, very few games these past few years i have actually gone from start to the ending credits but FO3 was one of them. Never did get round to the DLC stuff so i really should get it all reinstalled.
