Red dead has me wanting a 360 - Help!

becasue I am a total Forza 3 biattch!, i have both!

Xbox pad is a brilliant design, PC gamers use the wired version for gaming, on the FPS front reaction times arent as quick, but HALO was still very enjoyable on the 360. but it just feels a little bit wrong to me not using a mouse and keyboard lol

Splash out on a PS3, buy Red Dead Redemption and marvel in it's goodness safe in the knowledge that you will also be able to play the best console racing game ever Gran Turismo 5 !!!! ;)

I wouldn't base buying a 360 on RDR, I was mad for the game when it came out but lost interest in it quicker than any other game I've raved about. It's hard to explain but I just felt that i had to put to much into the game to get any pleasure back out. Great for the first few hours but after that it's pure grind.
On the other hand if you are into racers & get a wheel then games like Forza3 & Dirt 2 are well worth owning the console for.

There's plenty of places sselling the old Xbox 360 elite for £149 at the moment. I've seen a site selling it with 2 cheap games for £144 with free delivery. Oh i've just seen £139.99 free delivery

EDIT: I've just been looking into this a bit more. Theres a rumour flying about on a couple of bargain sites that a certain supermarket is going to be selling the new slim 250gb model for £139.99 for the first weekend. I can't see this being true at all unless it's one of those 'to the first 10 customer' offers that staff always snap up before the shop is open. I'll be keeping an eye on it just in case.

Are they? That long?

Apparently up untill around 2015, giving them a 10 year lifespan. According to MS and Sony anyways. The announcement of Move and Kintect and the continued hardware revisions supports this somewhat. If true it works out at less than a pint per month for each console!

I beat my brother in to submission to buy RDR on his 360, 4 days later he asked if I wanted to borrow the console and game as he was already growing tired of it.
Its a pretty good game, but not worth buying a console with the main intention just to play that one game.

Check your local video rental stores and such, many do console hire. Worth spending a tenner in a week to make sure you like what your looking at spending £150 on.

I would get a ps3 as you have the added bonus of a blu ray player assuming you havnt got one.

Plus its worth getting a ps3 for uncharted 2 and god of war. Both games i enjoyed more the rdr.

The multiplayer is terrible unles you're with a few others, if you get killed it spawns you literally either where you died or jsust a few yards away...

The ps3 has the best exclusives and many of them, some are of the best games I have played ever, red dead redemption looks & plays better on xbox 360, I've played both versions, I install all my xbox games on the hdd (keeps it pretty silent & loading times are quicker).
If getting 1 I'd go for the new xbox 360, better thermals decent sized hdd, just don't put it in an unventilated spot, I'd keep it laying flat too.
I find the xbox pad nicer to use but have no problem with either ps3 or xbox.
The game is possibly the best looking xbox game I have seen & runs nice & smooth too, it's even fun just to go hunting animals lol :D.
If it's just that 1 game you want though, possibly wait for it on pc, although rockstar games on pc have terrible multiplayer experience from cheats :(.

Go for the new slim and i usually play FPS with a XIM2 on my 360 but i used the controller for Red dead as it just feels better for 3rd person shooters.

Update. I actually ended up buying a slim and really enjoyed Red Dead for a week or so but I just couldn't get on with the controller , at all, especially during the racing bits. Soo I stuck it on the bay. Most expensive game I ever played ? Nah not really. But I guess someone had a good Xmas cos of it.

Once a PC gamer always a PC gamer. There really is no comparison

Yeah I gotta agree dude. I only have my 360 for the decent exclusives, which is a very short list these days :(

I liked RDR but felt it was rather shallow tbh.

I found Red Dead a bit poo tbh, It's ok to start with but it runs out of ideas very quickly. It's the same with the game world, It looks great and you can't wait to explore it, but you soon realise how empty and boring it is. Plus the multiplayer is terrible at times, there's no balance at all and it's full of glitches and exploits.

but its so freaking easy and thats down to it being on a console, theres no aiming, its just constantly tapping the lock on button then fire.

i guess you dont know about the "expert" aim mode in the options which completely takes away auto aim right?

i always have it on expert otherwise no way would i be able to play the game because it would just be plain boring. you will deffo's remember dead eye if you play on expert aim mode.

to the op, yes go for a box because last i heard red dead is much smoother on the xbox. i got xbox/ps3 and pc

For a console id have to demand auto aim for fps and 3ps as using a stick to control ur aim is nigh impossible and takes far too long for accuracy compared to a mouse.
