Ubisoft soundtrack files sourced from pirates

Wonder if they'll retract the release immediately like they did last time :p

Speaking of last time... what actually happened after it.

Ubisoft really do not care much for PC gamers anymore!!! They have a history of using cracking groups work in their official releases. Things like nodvd patches to remove Starforce DRM etc etc.

Its a bad joke

LOL at their DRM to prevent piracy then they go and pirate audio files for their game.

LOL Ubisoft.

Lots of people jumping to the wrong conclusion here.

They've not pirated music and stuck it in their game. They've released a pirated copy of the games own soundtrack. They're still the copyright owners and original creaters of the music.

Stupid that they've released a copy ripped by someone else rather than converting it from the masters, but not hypocritical in that they're just downloading things they own the copyright to. They'd be downloading pirated copies of their games to see how DRM is circumvented anyway. The stupid part is just them releasing it.

This is something I'd definitely do if I owned a company. You may as well claw something back from the pirates :p

Though I do despite Ubisoft's DRM methodology.

Thank you for correctly informing me :)

I thought the soundtrack contained third party work, not just their own.

In this case, it is a none issue, just a silly situation.

Well why go through the bother of doing it when someone else has already done it for you? From their point of view they're at least getting something out of piracy if their effectively getting people to work for them for free.

Still why would Ubisoft want their official files linked with Piracy? :p

I know they own the copyright etc but look at the coverage this is getting "arsa13" which most people are busy away googling :p

If it was your company you would probably just download the soundtrack if someone has converted it for you but you would at least remove any notes from said pirates. Suprised they didn't come as:

AssassiN_Cr33D[Brohood]_Inta-s0uNd-k33p(iT)_RE4L-P4ly$.flac

That's a fair point! I'm suprised they didn't to be honest, especially since this happened in the past.

Not misleading, the files are still sourced from pirates even if the original copy is still theres. Infact, it makes it even more hypocritical using a pirated copy of the audio because they couldn't be bothered to convert files that are theres! That just takes cutting corners to the absolute extreme.

Yes Ubisoft CAN just use the files themselves as they are the copyright owners, but it's embarrassing. It tells your consumers that you can't or are too lazy to do it yourself.

It's stupid that they did it, and they should have done it themselves. It's in no way hypocritical though. Regardless of the source of the files. Ubi own the copyright to them. Non story.

How is it not hypocritical? Even if they own the original copies they still didn't do the converting themselves and instead supplied a conversion done that wasn't there own, it was infact a pirated copy.

Given how anti-piracy Ubisoft have been, implementing the most severe DRM so far on the PC it's deeply ironic they'd use a pirated version of the soundtrack.

Perhaps they'll now issue an offline patch for AC2 using the pirated version, after all it's not like they haven't done this with previous games...

Because thats not what hypocrisy is. Besides can you even copyright file transformation or claim it as your own? It's not like it's a massively skilled or time consuming process. Lazy? Certainly. No way hypocritical when its their own material though.

Hypocrisy would be someone that openly admits to downloading pirated games whinging about a company downloading pirated material. ;)

But its not there own is it. The copyright certainly is but the files weren't. For a company that has a very hardline stance on piracy(/second hand sales) it is hypocritical to then release a soundtrack supplied by a pirated source when it takes next to no effort for them to do it themselves. Seriously how much time and money did they save by not converting it themselves?
