which 6950's for SLI?

sorry, i mean crossfire

a freind of mine is looking to get two of the 6950's in crossfire, with the thought of flashing them to 6970's later.

i've just reccomended the MSI ones because they are the cheapest revision 1's, but he is a bit concerned about the noise they will make. is there much difference between the different brands of 6950, or is it just best to save the £20 and go with the MSI's?

I think they are are reference designs apart from the Twin Frozer, maybe wrong but someone will correct me

well fist off, sli is for nvidia cards, crossfire is for ati cards . they are all prettyy mucxh the same, maybe different RAM sizes

oops, meant crossfire. was mostly interested in the fan design of all of them and which makes the least noise

Got a msi 6950 and the fan is better than expected

Read another thread on here of someone who got an asus and msi and msi was a lot quieter.

It's only the reference design, revision 1, 2GB cards which can be flashed.

So basically they're all the same.

Get the cheapest.

Don't flash them with the 6970's bios... just dump the original bios and unlock the shaders.

You can then overclock them with CCC or whatever...

Most reported failures have been from folks having flashed the 6970 bios and found the memory to have crapped out a while later.

I recommend the Asus oc version revision 1.... beautifully made with an alloy fan shroud, run almost silent.
