I have lived in my semi-detached house built in 1950's (ish), the street is lovely and the neighbours are fantastic..

The neighbour attached to my house if you like is about 70 and lives alone with a little dog. I can hear her sneezing on mornings and nights and if she has tele on I can tell which channels she watches - normally BBC news on a morning... you all get the point, I have no doubt she can probably hear us and our tele etc...

Anyone else have these problems between walls and have you found a proven solution that worked that didn't cost a bomb, i see that you can get soundproofing plasterboard but is it really worth it?

Thanks oh and no I won't just go and knock and tell her to stop sneezing, laughing, shouting at the dog and watching the tele...

You need soundblock plasterboard and also a resilient bar.

Two types of sound you are trying to block the bass which gets transferred through structures (resilient bar) and the higher pitches which need mass (pboard) to absorb.

The problem you will have is shared chimneys, roofs or joists that run through as you'll need to lift floors to acoustically insulate properly

I live in a new build sort of,well an old building converted, lovely exposed brickwork on bits, but what do they do,divide the bedrooms with is paper thin plasterboard,i dont know how building regs get away with it tbh,its pathetic,i might aswell have a curtain.

If the building company are building four new blocks the inspection team only has to check out one block to pass them all. That means the builders can put all the sound-proofing in the first block (resistance to the passage of sound - document E?) and then not bother with the others as much. It's madness.
