Video Games BAFTAs tonight!

I'm trying to find stats on it but just not happening for me. :(

Google fu is weaksauce today.

You don't need stats I'm not saying that's a cold hard fact that there are millions because quite frankly I don't expect it to be over a million playing now. Maybe at launch but nowhere near that now, I'd say just over a million. My only point was that if it's *such* a terrible game as certain people like to point out over and over, then how come so many people play it? The answer I was given was addiction, all I said was that for someone to be addicted they must at least enjoy something to get to the stage of addiction, so it surely can't be as bad as people make out.

But then the entire thing is based on people's tastes and opinions, I just don't like it when people say something IS rubbish, as in, it's not their opinion, they're saying it as if it's a fact.

Consumerism doesn't mean it's a quality product.

That's never been the case and you know it. :p

So many great games that didn't sell well purely because of bad marketing and/or lack of. Activision have managed to milk it as this is the 7th, 7th ffs, rendition of the game. It has become the pop culture of the video gaming world. Personally I'll stick to my avant garde side of the video gaming world. :p :)

My personal reasoning behind why so many play it? Ease of access. That's all, it's about cheap thrills (in the back of their car) especially when it comes to CoD. You jump into a 4vs4 match, mindlessly shoot each other, rage a little or smile a little then turn it off. It's not a revelation of mankind nor is it in my opinion that great as I prefer a different style of combat.

Avant garde my arse, I know that you like Fallout and stuff like that, critically acclaimed and well known titles, hardly unearthed gems are they?! :p

I can see your point, and no it isn't really revolutionary, the franchise has evolved from it's beginnings but it doesn't do anything radically new, some of the things in the game are pretty good though. I know they've had this since Halo 3 but recording your own matches and stuff is pretty good, the emblem generator is nice as well. I'm not saying that it changes multiplayer FPS or that it's done any groundbreaking new things, but it's a good drop in and out game and in my opinion it isn't as bad as everyone makes out. Call of Duty has been hated on more than usual since Modern Warfare 2 and that was probably because of the price, the hackers and then the absolute joke which was the map packs. To say CoD as a whole isn't very good does a bit of a disservice I think as I thought Modern Warfare and World at War were both great and both had excellent single player campaigns as well as multiplayer.

As for these awards though, there's no way it deserves to be nominated for some of those categories but then I've never even heard of the game BAFTA's before. I was saying to a friend yesterday that I've never seen it mentioned on the back of a game box either, I've seen Golden Joystick but never BAFTA. That, and it doesn't really matter what gets nominated for what, it's probably all rigged anyway.

My Bioshock box has a BAFTA logo on the front :) (Goty 2007) Only one I've noticed it on.

Ah I haven't got that. :p

I have to say I couldn't really watch the whole thing from start to finish, it was too cringeworthy and embarrassing. The way they were taking it super seriously and trying to add suspense was just... embarrassing. I love games and gaming is a massive part of who I am but I just found the whole thing a little bit "sad".

Bit too big to quote all of it.

I only talk about those because it's the only thing this forum talks about, I go with the flow man. You should see my hard drive with lots of free indie games, DOSgames and freeware games that I can imagine people have heard of but certainly don't play. :p Nothing wrong with liking a critically acclaimed title, as long as it's good. ;) Unlike Biofails DA2. >_>

You're right, I enjoyed Modern Warfare one for what it was. When the second one came out I just wasn't interested any more though.
