Cheltenham Festival 2011 - 14-17 March

Didn't get a chance to put my bets up for today, busy last night and worked 5 til 2 today :(

I did the following e-w treble:

Rock on Ruby (2nd at 13/2, beat by a shd)
Jessie's Dream (2nd at 10/1, beat by a neck)
Master Minded (3/1)

My placepot was:

Chicago Grey (1st at 5/1)
Oscars Wells (unplaced)
Bostons Angel AND Jessie's Dream (1st at 16/1 and 2nd at 10/1)
Master Minded AND Somersby
Arcalis AND For Non Stop
Akula AND Paintball

If only I'd put Rock On Ruby in my placepot, I'd still be in

So Young and Time for Rupert double
Mikael D'Haguenet
For Non Stop

Was on Sizing Europe meaning a little profit on an otherwise bad day.

Apparently Time For Ruper bled, 5th not looking that bad after all ?

Think I might stick some on him for next years gold cup.

That'd explain why he was being battered a mile from home!

Grands Crus is a superb 4/1 with bet365 currently, he's 9/4 elsewhere and 1/4 odds a place, so you'll get your money back if he's 2nd or 3rd. I'd say that is VERY good.

My picks:

1.30 - Noble Prince (5/1)- came 2nd to Realt Dubh which was placed on Tuesday behind Captain Chris which suggests he'll be good enough for this lot. Will like the slightly longer trip too.

2.05 - Rivage D'or (12/1) - I don't think he's run over this trip so it's a bit of an unknown quantity but he's consistent enough to challenge for a place here, although he doesn't like sticking his head in front.

2.40 - Poquelin (11/4) - Looks far too good for this field, some very inconsistent types, especially Alberta's Run which won here last year (after I backed him in 2009, swine) and is a class above these. Should be about 15/8 imo.

3.20 - Grands Crus (4/1) - I'm not expecting him to beat the best hurdler around in Big Buck's but after his seriously classy win here we know he's going to power up that hill. Big Buck's had a strong challenge from Time For Rupert last year and won by a length after cruising up but it didn't honestly look like he would have as much speed and strength as Grands Crus if they were level 2 out. Risky but surely a safe each-way.

4.00 - Peplum (33/1) - Big price on this one, beat Holmwood Legend (25/1, same race) last weekend. Slightly longer than he's used to but solid place shout here. About time we had a shock winner.

4.40 - Junior (5/1f) - A name I'll never forget in racing, as once he was backed from 40/1 into 11/2 and won handsomely. One of the biggest gambles I've ever seen landed. He's got to be in the mood for it, but if he is he's got a very strong chance.

The 5.15 is a charity derby, but odds are available on it. However, I won't be touching it.

Good luck :)

2.40 Result

1st - Alberta's Run (6/1)
2nd - Kalahari King (7/1)
3rd - Rubi Light (16/1)

Still in the placepot, woop

World Hurdle next - Grands Crus drifting like a barge, Big Buck's is 10/11.

3.20 Result

1st - Big Bucks (10/11f)
2nd - Grands Crus (4/1)
3rd - Mourad (8/1)

Wonderful finish, just what we wanted to see. Grands Crus was produced late and looked very dangerous but Ruby held him off gamely. Great race.

Still in the placepot but the next 2 races are VERY hard.

Dare I ask what you've put on Peplum? :p

4.00 Result

1st - Holmwood Legend (25/1, see my post earlier, picked the wrong sodding one eh)
2nd - Aimigayle (25/1)
3rd - Perfect Sound (9/2f)
4th - Consigliere (20/1)
