I am waiting for my passport to come through (never had one before), do I need to provide my passport number/details to be able to bok a flight
have read the US asks for passenger details from the airline/holiday company, but not sure if I need to actually have my passport!

you don't need it to book the flight but you will for the ESTA and APIS which can be done later, you can't leave these things until the airport though

Try and complete as much as you can and it will make the airport process a lot smoother.

The esta is required and must be completed at least 72 hours prior to your travel date. Do it straight away incase of any complications.

I've just travelled with Virgin Atlantic and was able to enter loads on their website such as address I was staying at etc etc. Plus with the online check in, it made the whole process very easy.

You can provide the advance passenger info at the airport, you don't need it to book the flight.

My sister works for a travel company and she says a couple of airlines have started charging £15 if you provide at airport and not in advance

Jesus, that's a lot. I know United and Continental don't do it yet and I hope they never do.
