Hey guys,

Wifey bought a Nissan Note a couple of years ago (first baby on the way then so we wanted a cheap, practical car). It's suited us perfectly so far with a massive boot and so on.

Anyway, yesterday my wife received a call from the Nissan dealership we bought it from who said that they had been given a load of money to buy back Nissan Notes at a higher rate than normal as there is a shortage of them. She made an appointment to pop along and have a chat tomorrow about it.

I'm very sceptical of all this and am fully expecting it to be dealer BS, but I've never heard of this offer before and can't really figure it out. Anyone heard of this?

Well, my mother in law just handed back her Nissan Note which she got through Motability, and she has just had a cheque back from Nissan because it was sold/worth more than anticipated.

Could be possible I guess!

They are trying all kinds of tricks to get people to buy new cars (how many ''11'' plate cars have you seen?)
Honda ''invited'' me to buy a new Jazz or Civic 'at cost price' from them this weekend.
Hyundai were doing a similar thing a year or so ago, buying one year old cars back meaning you could have a newer one for just £500 and the same monthly outlay

It may well be a ploy to get you in the door BUT you can still get a pretty good deal from them, i had an offer to get a brand new Audi with about 2k off it a while back, similar story with Ford.

This is why we are taking up their offer of going along. Seems like it's a bit of a way of just getting you into the dealership, then. I'll update here when I've been :D

Yeah I started to look into that - any tips?

I found an almost exact match that they are selling so I know their price.

I have full parkers guide price access at the moment so can get you a guide valuation if you give exact model, age and mileage.

There's a free version on the what car website.

These deals can sometimes be very good. Out of the blue we had a call from the Seat dealer who we bought the Exeo off of 12 months or so ago saying something simliar. The deal we were offered for a brand new Ibiza Chill for my wife was significantly better than expected and I couldn't get close to it online or with other dealers and also tried different makes. The end result was that I got my XF and my wife got a nice little 5 door Ibiza which she preferred as it was a smaller car.

My parents found there was a shortage of Dihatsu Sirions last year, following the scrappage scheme. They were told that there were very few in the UK and the dealers didn't know when manufacturing / import would catch up. A lot of people bought cheap new cars in the last couple of years, leading to a few shortages.

Who cares what the premis for getting you in there is, if they do you a good deal then thats all you should be bothered about.
