Losing horse? if we backed him he won't lose. In fact if we just left him alone he would almost certainly win.
If we left him alone the country would continue on it's path of civil war. And that's not good for business.

Again klets look at what happens after an overthrow.
lets see what happens when dictators have an uprising and aren;t scared to use force. The rebels would be quashed and Gadaffi would carry on as normal. the arguments just don't look at facts and history.
I think you're underestimating how oppressed by and fed up of Gaddafi the Libyan people are.
Lets see, what weapons do they have?
Why not go back into Africa which has huge mineral deposits, if we were there for minerals.
Kind of defeats your argument doesn't it.
Just as well we have the capability to deploy aircraft from sea, ohhhh wait nice one tory dave!
It was a typo!
Iraq is secure enough now so US and UK oil companies can drill etc.
Some are he still has a lot of support and as bad as Ireland was it is nothing compared to a total civil war, again lets look at certain African countries as example and is nothing like what is happening then. You can still run a country even with the state Ireland was. It is a totally different scale, with totally different rules, after all we tried to preserve life (controversial statement, but you have to agree it's not the same) and not throw milliatry in like gadaffi would do.
So what you saying for your argument to be true, we should be helping Gaddafi not "fighting" against.
Not taht we are fighting anything, UN has given allies the power to stop indiscriminate killing of civilians (but excluded all ground troops, basically air and shelling only), not milliatry operations or fights against rebels.

wow, another person peddling worthless **** about something they know nothing about

A fighter jet has crashed in flames after apparently being shot down over the rebel stronghold of Benghazi in eastern Libya, reports the BBC's Ian Pannell in the city.
He reports seeing the jet plummet to the ground around 0900 (0700 GMT), but said it was unclear exactly what brought the plane down.
Explosions and gunfire have been heard across Benghazi despite Col Gaddafi's government declaring a ceasefire on Friday.
Meanwhile, leaders from the US, the UK, France, and Arab countries are to meet in Paris to discuss military action in Libya.
The summit comes after the UN Security Council approved a resolution that allows "all necessary measures", short of an invasion, to protect civilians in the north African country.
