Ok so mines outdated by lightyears, so i would like a new one which would keep me going for a year or so :).
My current setup is:
amd phenom II x4 3.2ghz
4gb RAM (soon 8gb)
GA-880GMA-UD2H MoBo

My budget would be £150(+/- £10).
Would be used on Games and Designing software(typical Adobe software).
Would also like to play these games on max settings with.

Cheers and Thanks. :)

if you go for a 5850, i would recommend the msi twin frozr, as it is very quiet for me, even under load, and also gets very cool temps. i have played every game i've thrown at it on maxish, even crysis apart from AA.

currently £160, but they do seem to be in deals quite a bit. I got mine a month ago for £135, and they were going for £135 just a few weeks ago.:)

they are both good. 5850 is slightly better benchmark-wise, but that doesn't mean the 6850 would be a bad choice!

If you can get the 5850 in a deal though it is a bargain for less than £150 imo.

i was just speaking from experience of owning a twin frozr 5850, that i can't believe the noise and temp. highest i've had when gaming is 56 degrees and that was after around 5 hours of Crysis!! with fan speed of 40% which is almost silent!!!

At idle, i keep the fan speed at 25% and it is completely silent

Excellent temps there, Pighardia.

I suppose it's fair to say the 5850 is slightly faster, where as the 6850 will have better tessellation performance. Those twin frozr's are very nice cards.

coming from a gtx470, i couldn't believe it:)

the twin frozr 5850's do seem to be on offer every other week for some reason. If you can get one for £135-145. it's a great deal.

You found it better for just the temps and noise? What was the performance difference like? :)

i must say that i didn't notice much performance-wise, but if i had to choose, i would say that the 470 handled games a bit smoother such as bad company 2 and Crysis, not that the 5850 has struggled at all.

I RMA'd the 470 after 5 days, as i couldn't stand the noise, even with a fan profile set up, when watching videos/blu-rays.
noise-wise, 30% fan speed on 470 was roughly equivalent to 60% on the 5850. (not that it's gone that high outside of furmark):)

Ok, thanks. I had a 4870X2 and provided I kept it dust free at idle it was almost whisper quiet. When it started to get congested you knew about it. :D Then it was a noisey bugger. :)

Re : the OP's situation, I wonder what will overclock better? The 5850 or the 6850? Maybe not much difference there either? :)

i think that since i have red the benchmarking and a review from Pighardia i will get the twin frozr 5850 :) thanks guys, wondered if you could suggest a pair of good 8gb RAM sticks for a Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H mobo either please :)
Also is the noise level good on those Twin Frozrs whilst gaming?

clocked my 5850 to just shy of 5870 speeds. can't remember the exact figures, as i has to remove the OC, as Crysis, for some reason, doesn't like overclocking and i started to get artefacts.
