At the moment I have an LLU broadband connection with ADSL 24. It's been great as it provides a constant 1.4MB/s download speed and has truly unlimited downloading (no fair usage nonsense). However, we now have access to fibre optic broadband and I'm considering upgrading. I'm probably going to stay with ADSL 24 as they've been great but can anyone recommend something better?

I would recommend instead of getting a new internet connection sorted, have a look at usenet first and see what speeds you get on that.

Well it depends if your a heavy user with bit torrents, and what you download of course ;)

With usenet you WILL max out your connection, and depending on what speeds you get now and how patient you are, a new connection might be overkill :)

With torrents from the popular sites I max out my connection already. I average about 600GB downloads a month atm.

Ah right cool. Torrents must have caught up in the past few years since I last tried them :o. Well then FTTC it is then buddy! :D

I don't have a clue who is good (Virgin Media customer here) so let one of the other gents direct you :D

On second thoughts I might be sticking with what I have...even ADSL 24 are capping peak time usage on their fibre package - which they classify as 8am to midnight midweek. :(

Any providers do uncapped (or at least very high caps) FTTC for about £20 a month or so?

BT have the most generous caps and pricing by a long way. Not sure what their torrent filtering is like though.

BT is currently 300Gig FUP - exceed that and your connection will be extremely slow from ~6pm til midnight... however they do quite a bit of P2P traffic management - especially if your exchange is near capacity you will see silly low P2P speeds throughout most of the day time (tho uncapped from around 2am til 8am).

Expect torrents to be near useless from around 5pm till midnight and no higher than 1Mbps upload 24/7. Depending on area the situation could be better but this combo is a worst case scenario, i personally experience on and off non torrent filtering probably every other day.

For around £20 at your usages, your only option for FTTC is BT really

One thing worth noting is the FUP will be gone month

We use TitanADSL at work of FTTC 100GB usage during peak and unlimited off peak, or Aquiss as they use Entanet as their wholesale provider.
