Sterilizing nail clippers at home... Quick Q!

Hey folks,

So this may get deleted, sorry mods if it's not allowed!

Anyway;

I need to quickly dis-infect a set of nail clippers (long story but need to cut a skin tag off!)

Haven't got any rubbing alcohol, and killing it with fire or nuking it from orbit may not help in this instance.

So all the science-heads out there, any common household things I can use to disinfect the clippers? Suspect Dettol won't do?

Boil them then cool them or pop the quickly into the gas flame on a hob

EDIT> Justin, not sure if that sterilizes? Im no expert so if it does thats fine i'll do that, but googling it talks of all sorts of stuff like Isopropyl etc!

put it in pure bleach for 5 mins. rinse, then use.

Its only a skin tag, not like youre amputating a leg. Just rag it off.

Boiling water, dettol, fire, 70% vodka, IPA etc or just look under the sink for something anti bacterial. I wouldnt worry about it too much though...

Boiling it is fine, IPA is just easier if you have it.

I think the docs recommend tightly wrapping some thread around the tag and just letting it die and fall off.

It's currently in a small bowl of bleach! Will leave it there for a few mins and then do it.

Failing that a rusty hacksaw from the garage.

People do say use dental floss tie around one, and then it falls off after a few days, but it's too fiddly, it's hardly gigantic just a pain and something i've never got round to sorting out til now - what a random thing to do on a Friday evening!

Make sure you rinse it!

I didn't actually know what a skin tag was until now so googled it - really wish I hadn't

a very sharp scalpal or stanley might be an option.

I will rinse it and then give it a quick wash with fairly liquid - or is that defeating the object of previous sterilization?

nope, the majority of germs will be destroyed from the bleaching.
