we have a tank of hermit crabs and would like to setup a webcam to see where we cant see.

im not really sure what to look for as the lighting it would be in is fairly low, [ie camera flash required for pics] but we dont want a 'lit' webcam

does such a device exist? would be nice to get some footage. :)

I think the hardest thing about this would be the water issue.... Not sure if a webcam exists, I guess here is where google is your friend...

I'd say maybe an underwater digital camera or something might be your best bet?

no water in this tank, its terrestrial, and doesnt even need to be in the tank

inside the tank is 70% humid, which isnt that damp

yes im guessing that would be good, dont need the wireless and dont need the box obviously, will need to track down the model of the camera they use which seems to be more difficult than i thought!! but thats an ideal start point!

thanks!

again looks like the cameras would be suitable, but all i want is a USB version, those look like tv connections,

i was also looking at the Logitech Pro 9000 HD but dont know if this 'normal' webcam would be up to the low light areas of the tank even tho it says low light. [it does have a small focal length]

ahh sorry, didn't read the post properly. didn't realise you were looking for a usb cam. sorry mate

to be fair i didnt make it clear, [the tank is literally 1m from my monitors USB hub.

if possible if anyone with a webcam who uses it in low light could give me a opinion thatd be great :)

do you have a budget in mind? as you can get what you are looking for but it all depends on how much you want to spend.

i've used several webcams over time, all pretty cheap to be fair and they aint really up to much in lo light conditions

im gonna go with up to 30-40, i dont mind going used to get a better cam, but cheaper if possible!

ive never had any sort of web cam before.

tight budget for what you are looking for. but if you simple google 'lo-light usb webcam'

from a quick look, the Hercules Dualpix HD720p gets pretty good reviews for lo-light image capture

the nest box ones seem to come with a lot of stuff besides the cam for not much more than 40, and thats for tv, i thought usb would be cheaper?

colour isnt a must if IR is a better bet

with those nest boxes they usually use scart, you could possibly look into adapters and converter cables for scart to usb. but in all honesty i have no idea how that works as your trying to go from analogue to digital.

i've read a we bit more about the Hercules Dualpix HD720p, and i is getting very good reviews when used in lo light conditions

it might also be worthwhile asking the same questions in this sub-forum,

you might find folks in there with more know how on the audio/visual side of things. sorry i can't be of more help

yeah i dont want to faff with scart and adapters, seems a waste

cant see any views of those links posted above, and WOT flags it up with multiple people saying its not secure etc
