Just to clarify all...

I am a Coastguard
Falmouth Coastguard heard about a flare that was washed up on the shore. It had to be blown up, they insisted. If it was up to use, we'd do it ourself at the dump!
Bomb squad came in
Bomb squad dug hole and chose the location
Bomb squad pressed button
Bomb squad set fire to island!


Us Coastguards were wondering why they dug so close as well - plenty of beach!

Aside from the .303 rounds, I don't see why any of it required the bomb squad. Especially the old shotgun hulls.
