Difference between MSI GTX 460 Talon Attack and GTX Super OC?...

Hello, I have a GTX 460 Talon attack from MSI, love it and decided to go SLI. Ideally I wanted to buy the exact same card in order to avoid any compatibility problems, plus I want to overclock them both and have heard great things about the overclocking potential of this particular card.
Anyway, I can't find one to buy new, so I settled for a GTX 460 HAWK Super OC Edition, figuring that would be my closet match, and suspecting that MSI had probably just ditched the Talon Attack branding replacing it with the less twaty OC Edition.

SO, the question is, if there are differences between the two then what are they?...

I've been looking at the specs and can't figure out what's different myself. I'm thinking Marathon to Snickers?...

Different circuitry, better memory (0.4ns), different BIOS and a bit higher frequencies (810 core vs 780 "usual" Hawk). All to gain better o'c (advertised 1 GHz on core ?).

180639970353 it's an auction number on biggest auction site ;-) A guy sells it due to the same reason - he can't find second same card as it was Limited Edition only.

Different circuitry?...do you know where there's any information about that, I've been searching and cant find anything.:mad:Are you sure it was the Talon Attack?...

The memory I knew about but that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.
And the clocks can all be manually set via afterburner so physically it looks to be exactly the same item to me.

You could even flash the Super OC with the BIOS of the Talon Attack. Check stability after obviously.

Ha ha ha, I have just looked at that item you mentioned £186 second hand first bid!.
When I bought mine new it was under £150!, and a brand new Super OC can be had for the same now!.
I suppose some poor sucker will fall prey to his marketing it as LIMITED EDITION though. I suppose technically it is, but it implies a whole world of extra performance can be had from this over the Super OC which simply isn't true.
They don't even use a separate box for the Talon Attack, just a little sticker on the front. That's one expensive sticker!.

I have 2 of these, the first cost me £145 new the second £160 second hand due to limited cards made.

With the talon attack the only part of the card that is stock is the gpu core, everything else has been changed.
It's not just about the bios either, each gpu is tested and the ones that oc higher are put in the more expensive cards so that we can achieve higher clocks.

1 of my cards maxs out at 900mhz and the other at 925mhz. Try and get that from 2 stock cards :D

Can you point me in the right direction to where you learned about the differences please. All I can ever find is that the memory is slightly better performing and they are pre clocked higher at the factory.
I have a super OC on order and want to learn about any specific differences between them before I get it in order to get a better idea on how to best perform the OC and what I should expect in comparison to the Talon Attack.

I would have imagined that the Super OC batch would have been cherry picked for it's overclocking potential too like the Talon Attacks were. Otherwise what's the difference between the regular HAWK and the Super OC?...it cant just be a pre applied middle of the road factory OC surely?...

I'm on my phone ATM but I think it was over a bit tech. Toms hardware did a review between it and xfire 5770s where they discussed it :)

Over clocking won't be any different, just get after burner crank the volts up along with the core and test it.
Remember that both cards have to be clocked at the same speeds.

I shall go scour thank you. And with regard to them both having to be the same clock speed, apparently not, I was over at Tom's last night and was told that those days have long gone. I don't know if I'm allowed to link to another forum so I shan't but if you search over there for this exact title, I'm having this same discussion over there too.
I haven't read the topic myself yet, busy busy busy! Thanks though.

I was just told that the cable would work fine and that it was actually a good thing because it means I can space the two cards out more lowering GPU temperatures?

Jeffries...what do you mean by it only has one connector, the 460?...I only want to connect two together?...

Cor why did I bother trying to shop at scan!

What a nightmare, I bought a Talon Attack from **********, well at least I thought I did, that's what they sold me at least.

They're proper con artists, they sold me a Talon Attack, charged me for it, invoiced me for one and sent me a regular HAWK and hoped I wouldn't notice. Just slapped £20 extra on it and changed the invoice to Talon Attack.

They have a seriously bad customer service too, very bad attitude, couldn't care less about their customers.

So if you have a problem, and nobody else can solve it, maybe you should shop with THE S.C.A.M Team, sorry I meant SCAN Team.
