Will we miss having them around in a confrontation like this?
Libya opposition forces have enough people wanting to fight gadaffi. They just didn't have the artillery or planes which is why they got beaten back.
Give them weopons and clear out the tanks and artillery and they should be able to do the ground work them selves.

0111: The British fast jets flew 4,828km (3,000 miles) from RAF Marham and back - the longest range bombing mission conducted by the RAF since the Falklands conflict, according to the Ministry of Defence. The operation was supported by VC10 and Tristar air-to-air refuelling aircraft as well as E3D Sentry and Sentinel surveillance aircraft.

Impressive feat, the amount of organisation involved must be massive.

The French are even involved in this, let's hope Gaddaffi's troops don't pull out a pea shooter, the French will run for the hills if that happens.

So why has the western world not bothered with Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe?

He is worse than Gaddaffi. Oh I forgot, Zimbabwe don't have any OIL!

Also, wasn't the UK bed buddies with Libya last year?

Gaddaffi hosted our PM and royalty.

Logistics made it near to impossible to do, even if we wanted to. South Africa were also against the idea. It isn't always about oil you know!

Simply put: Libya we can do something about. The example of Zimbabwe's a good one, as they're a landlocked country surrounded by neighbouring states not willing to allow intervention over Robert Mugabe's regime, as brutal as it is. The 2003 Iraq war for instance, wouldn't have happened had Bahrain, Qatar and most importantly Kuwait not agreed to allow the UK, US and Australian (everybody forgets about the Aussie's contribution for some reason) forces to use their territory to launch the invasion of Iraq, as Saudi Arabia were having none of it.

Libya meanwhile is a coastal country, meaning ships and aircraft can transit it without needing to negotiate basing rights, whilst France and Italy are just across the Mediterranean, and willing partners in getting rid of the frankly, out and out ******* that Gahdaffi is.
