Gigabyte GTX480 SE First Impressions

600W is probably borderline - depends on the quality of the PSU

the power draw is quite increadible - I mean mine was just pulling 450W even in New Vegas .. which is very impressive - more than I had with a 3870x2

but nice at idle - less power than my 4890 was

It's an OCZ StealthXtreme 2. Might have to go with something a little less power hungry if I'm likely to have issues....

A very timely review, I am very toying between this and a 6950, you may have just pushed me towards the 480.....My only major concern is the power drain. I only have 600w PSU and am concerned that it's not going to be enough.....if only I had gone for the extra 100watts when I replaced it a couple of months ago....

Working fine on my 620W Corsair.

There are a few people on these forums who have been fine on 600w PSUs, I think these cards are a lot less power hungry than the rev1.0 boards. I seem to remember reading a review of the SOC card which said it was pulling 280w at load, which would be fine. I can't remember the review, though. I'll try and Google it...

Right - few more drinks and I'll get the order placed then!!...

I changed my mind from a 6950 to this, max temps i have seen while gaming are 62 degrees and it certainly is quiet, great card!

If only OCUK shows realtime stock count, it would be very useful for me...

Still says 10+ at the moment, I need to just place the order and be done with it.....instead, I do hours of refresh and forum reading before making decisions....

Just bought mine. Seems like a great deal to pass up.

I probably could have kept my GTX 280 for a while longer but a lot of DX11 games are on the way this year so felt like a good time to upgrade.

absolute cracker of a card, for £200 you cant go wrong, and with a small overclock you get 580 performance

The account holder as in the credit card account holder. :p

Anyways, how much can you overclock with this card before making it too hot and unstable?

Seem to recall reading somewhere (maybe on here...) about someone overclocking the core to 820, and it was fine.

600W is easily enough providing it's a respectable brand, Nvidia themselves recommend minimum system power to be 600W, but they have to cover their own arses and take into consideration all the rubbish generic 600W psus floating about.

Just for some reference I've got a 480 with a GTX 260 for PhysX combined with an overclocked i5 750, 2 hard drives, 2x2GB oc'd memory, a blu-ray player/dvdrw, 5 120mm fans, fan controller along with several USB devices all running perfectly for nearly a year now on an ageing 700W Seasonic M12.

I know Rroff who posts in these forums runs 470s in SLi using a 700W OCZ fatality! or at least he did do, I don't think it's blown up yet :D
