The Phenom II X4 980BE - the swansong of the Phenom II

Not necessarily, some of us try to squeeze as much out of a rig as we can.

yeah, but no one already has one!
if you are in the market for a cpu upgrade atm, would you really look at this?

AMD obviously know better than me, and they wouldn't release it if there wasn't a market for it, but those in the know, so to speak, are unlikely to upgrade whatever they have atm, for this chip, as they would more likely wait for bulldozer, or be happy with an alternative 955/965 or something i would think.:)

i don't think that anyone who uses computer forums or frequently reads up on the latest tech, would be particularly interested in this.
What do you think?

it's not as if AMD have noticed a gap in the market:)

Depends on how it clocks ;) these PII chips should still be good for another few years yet. Same as per the new graphics cards you seem to see every few months, for 99% of people's needs they're just total overkill. An old card now I know, but my 8800GT still plays Just Cause 2 on high settings at 1080p - that's all I'll need for a while yet.

Biostar haven't released a bios for my MB to take x6's and I am sure there will be other boards out there the same. So without clocking, or buying a new MB, this would be the fastest chip I could get.
