I recently bought a Kia Mentor, so as a rule i always get the timing belt done, also a new clutch as this went stiff and had a clicking sound when pressed.

Well my usual garage was fully booked until end of the month, and needed to get the clutch done.

Only had the car back 2 days, here the list of problems

Engine sounds ruff & a nocking noise coming from cam belt area, was ok the day i got this done, just started this noise this afternoon, revs stay constant and no engine managment light hasn't come on.

I found a loose short black earth wire that connected to the body but nothing else.

And now the car has a leak coming from gearbox, by the looks of it they taken it off and instead of using a proper gasket they just sealed it back up with blue gasket sealer.

When i bought the car it didn't have one single leak as i checked before and after running it for a while, plus the engine was quiet & has been until i got the cam belt changed now sound like a tank.

What ever the garage has done they really done a crap job.

im now worried they done the timing wrong and knackered the engine.

if the timing off slightly would this damage the engine?

Take it back and ask them to fix it?

If it still runs then assuming the timing is out slightly it'll be fine.

It's only when it's massively out and smashing pistons into valves etc when you should be worried!

Sounds like they only changed the belt & left the tensioner or they haven't set up the tensioner right (How I do not know though) or they have just been slack putting your cambelt cover back on & it's rubbing or not tight therefore leaking noise or they didn't put it back on at all.
I'd take it back & ask if they used a Full cambelt kit or just changed the belt & get them to listen to the car & show them the leaks then Tell them to sort it.

There is no gasket between engine and gearbox, there is nothing to seal here. It's possible they could have damaged one of the oil seals when removing or replacing a driveshaft.

I had the full kit inc waterpump done........so called.

I've got a very repected Mobile Mechanic coming look at the car today, basically to check the timing belt has been done properly and they haven't damaged the engine as he lives local.

He said he won't charge to have alook at it for me, if it just something simple like a naffed sparkplug or HT lead ect they he can either do it for me, for a small cost or i can do it myself.

But he did say on the phone that the Garage that done the work are a bunch of cowboys & shouldn't have really gone there.

Eitherway I'll be phoning the garage later.
