I have just installed Catalyst 11.2 (previously had 10.2 installed) and there are 2 options I don't really know much about (yes a bit out of touch with graphics due to PC not working for a while).

Morphological Anti-Aliasing

Should I enable this? Does it provide better IQ than 'Use application Setting Edge Detect'?

Tessellation

Should I set this to 'AMD Optimised' or 'Use Application Settings' and what does it do?

Forces AMD's version of AA, that takes less of a fps hit than standard AA.
Usefull for the likes of Batman Arkham Asylum and Dead Space 2, where you can't select any AA in game.
Some people like it some don't.
Nvidia and the fanbois done a bit of moaning about it when it came out, but are now working on their own version.

Leave it as AMD Optimised, the few games that use it may get a slight benefit, which could make all the difference.

Morphological Anti-Aliasing should be off unless your playing a game that doesn't natively support AA or Forced AA and don't like jaggies.

Tessellation set to AMD Optimised will produce better performance... but results are unpredictable, it _should_ work ok for major titles (I believe it only works off presets) but depending on tastes you might find it impacts IQ.

Err..

Applying aa via filters is a very old technique, not used much outside of console because it can cause issues (notable text). It's just than amd came up with reasonably workable version, it just needs profiles (which don't exists yet) in the same way a console game is built with it in mind. Probably the most effective use it currently has is starcraft 2, where it works very well.

Still, the inefficiency of directx reduce frame rate far more than aa. The sooner that dies a quick death the better our games will be :P
