No love from EK for 6950, should I just get GTX480

Well I will soon be in the market for a 6950 and want it in my new water cooling loop and notice that EK only produce the 6970 waterblock, what are you guys doing that have the 6950, I really don't fancy a 6970 backplate and block on a 6950, seems EK have made quite a big mistake as I am sure more 6950 have sold than 6970

So with the above in mind should I just plan on getting a GTX480 instead, as from what I gather the GTX480 out performs the 6950 anyway and is looking the best bang for buck at the moment (thats how I usually purchase my GPU)

What do you guys think I should do?

The 6970 waterblock fits the 6950 perectly, they use the same PCB IIRC

yeah it fits but it says 6970 all over it and not something I would want to see

You won't see it unless you have a BTX rig.

I would have a window on the side panel and it would bug me everytime I see it, it looks like I would have to purchase a 6970 as it would really be too much to bear lol, sounds like a life or death issue but in all seriousness I would have thought EK would have seen that more people have opted for the cheaper card of the two considering the dual bios and it's potential to be just as good as a 6970

Get the new Swiftech block. IIRC that just says ATI HD6900

see, that is my point, it would bug the hell out of me and I definatly am going to water cool my next gpu, damn, I really dont wanna fork out for 6970 unless they come in an offer at some point soon, if they was £230 I would probably buy it as with a block and backplate it's another £90, thats why I am thinking GTX480, heat issues will be gone as it will be under water

well i got rads that are EK and cpu block that is EK, res as well and wanted to make a bit of a theme of EK stuff

I have registered at their forum/support site and have raised a ticket asking them why no EK 6950 block

I know its annoying but i would not be sacrificing my cash for the sake of a number. You can tell all your friends it a boy racer bmw 316 with an m3 badge on (dont tell Fox)

I assume the 6950/'s shaders are not (and will never be) unlocked.

The writing is on the front of the block is'nt it? If so it will be facing down in your case so you won't see it anyway.

True, but then there is that nice looking backplate that says 6970, damn EK

OP, Are you actually serious ? Because I sense no seriousness at all. Who cares if its a 6970 block? If it fits a 6950, why would you sell your current card and buy a 6970 which would be the stupidest move on earth IMO.

Buy the block if you really want to get your card WCooled.

Yeah I am serious, it would seriously bug me, I don't have the card yet, I got about another week or so before ordering, but yeah I would want the block to say 6950, not 6970 which the card will never be if I buy a 6950, I would kinda feel stupid parading it with a 6970 block and underneath is a 6950, god damn this is difficult
