Just think though, the difference between a 6950 and 6970 is basically what BIOS they have on them. If you flash the 6950, it'll be a 6970.
Why not just flash it to a 6970... then the label would be right

You could make a stencil and spray "6950" on it, but if you did you wouldn't be able to unlock it, because it wouldn't be a 6950 any more.
This has to be the worst situation, for one the block ain't right on a good card with good potential to unlock to a much better card, or two, buy a last gen card that still holds it's own really and with it being under water noise and heat are not a factor but blocks are made for them with the correct naming, and it's such a costly upgrade if I get it wrong, basically won't be able to do a thing about it.
whats not right about the dangerden block above? doesnt say 6970 on it but is specially made for 6950/6970 because as someone said above they are the same card with different bios settings....

I still hold my original suggestion to flash the 6950 to 6970... I'm not the only person to suggest it and it solves your problem and gives you a better card for you money.... it just makes sense.
Well I want it to be an EK block as everything else is, also I don't see a stockist in the UK for the Danger Den block, but thanks for the suggestion
There not really the same card though are they, it will allways be a 6950 running a different BIOS and have read a few horror stories of bad flash's and such obviously there is no guarantee it will unlock to the same performance of a 6970
I am usually the unlucky one when it comes to buying hardware that is supposedly best value because it does this and that and then when I try to do it myself there is usually some problem that makes me revert the change anyway, I am just unlucky like that.

Are you ******* kidding me? The reason a reference design can be flashed to a 6970 is because it is a 6970!

Full 6970 flash(not unlocked shader flash!)
471 Cards tested.
456 unlock fully to 6970.
14 unlock to 6970 but rendering errors.
1 did not unlock.
You can add my 2 6950's to the success rate too
I would get one of the 14 that got the rendering errors or maybe just the 1 that didn't, seriously I am the most unlucky when it comes to getting the latest free overclock upgrade
Very much agreed, you need to be incredibly vain and shallow to be bothered by such a thing, I can only assume OP doesn't know April 1st is 10 days away.
Because AMD cards don't overclock, and nVidia cards (yours only) get 20% more performance from a 2% overclock!
