hi. i recently purchases this bundle of ocuk and having some difficulty in setup. so far i have securely inserted the soundcard and attached it with the appropriate power cables. i have disabled onboard sound in bios, and installed the latest drivers online and proceeded through set up. if i go in device manager i can see the xonar xense drivers and that they are 'working'. however, when i insert my headset using the dual 6.3 jacks directly into the back, and open up the xonar zense audio centre i am getting no readings, or fluctuating bars (not sure how to best describe this sorry), and this regardless of the settings i assign below. my assumption would be that for audio channel it should be two channels, for sample rate it should be PCM 96 Khz, and for audio output it should be headset.

bearing in mind all of what i have written (sorry about wall of text), is there anything that somone can suggest or can obserrve that i have forgotten, or a glaring error in my setup?

thanks in advance :)

Possibilities are: Have you got Asus Xonar Xense analogue/speakers set to default in the Windows audio properties, and not digital? When you selected headphone as output, did you select FP headphone by mistake?

As mentioned previously, you need to set the default audio output device in the windows control panel's "sounds" section first of all. If you are using the cards analog outputs (either headphone amp or 2 pin stereo RCA connection) you should find an option that looks like:

----------
Speakers
Asus Xonar Essence STX Audio Device
----------

Make sure this is set as the default playback device to enable the analog outputs on the card.

Then go in to the Asus Xonar control panel and set the analog out to either:

2 speakers (to use the stereo RCA output)
or
Headphone (which is obviously for the headphone socket).

As also mentioned, DON'T select either "FP 2 speaker" or "FP Headphone", as these are for the front panel audio connections only.

Sample rate depends on the audio that is being played back. A standard audio CD for example is 44.1KHz, whereas a DVD is 48KHz. Setting a sample rate such as 96KHz for these will force the audio to be "upsampled" from its native sample rate, which can possibly distort the sound.
