Can't remember where I read it (couldn't have been the economist of all places) Thing is... It was saying that in a year or two student loans will only be available for subjects involving Maths - Science and IT based.

I was planning on studing Enviromental health in 2013 after hopefully doing well on my access cource. Does anyone have any input on this?

1st I've heard of it - sounds unlikely to me. Was probably just a proposal that the media latched onto.

it's nothing to do with student loans, but funding is more at risk for "arts" subjects than non-"arts" subjects, environmental health probably isn't considered an arts subject though.

Yea quite a few unis are cutting back certain subjects, my girlfriend is doing Linguistics at the moment and her uni are cutting that and all language based degrees as of next year, and pretty much all unis are cutting the same things as she wants to do a Masters when she's done it now can't be done in this country, so she's now looking at Penn State to do her masters.

Problem is that foreign students bring in a lot of money to universities and now a lot of the european institutes are removing all credit given to students coming here to study, Spanish, French and i believe German Uni's are already actively discouraging students coming to study over here.

Why?

Sounds good. Funding should be based on value of the course imo
Oh, also on need. If there is no need for 20k biology students then any more that apply for course have less funding

I'm fairly sure the OP is confusing this with the government cutting back on funding bursaries for teaching. Arts and the like are being cut back when it comes to the bursaries, where as science, maths and it will remain the same.

Also golden hello's are to be scrapped completely I believe.

Now you're bringing value judgements into it and distorting liberties. A very dangerous path indeed.

Choose a path in life that you want, if you get funding to help you it's a bonus.
If you are doing something that will not help the country then you should fund it yourself, or receive reduced funding.
