Has anyone used Regaine for Men? (hair loss stuff)

Freefaller I think the reason I did something about it was I was quite young when I started noticing it, its a bit embarrasing when all of your friends have full heads of hair and you are starting to loose it :/

Maybe when I get a bit older and the rest of my friends start loosing theirs I wont mind as much

And Morba, as above really!

I would really like not to care about it, but it is something that bothered me and I feel a lot better for doing something about it :)

Its not perfect but its a heck of a lot better! :D

My understanding of all these similar products is that they have no effect on totally bald areas. What the do is stop the "rest cycle" of hair growth, and force the follicles to grow hair continuously. If your hair has thinned, it will thicken a bit, but not a lot. If the follicles are dead, it will do nothing. And you must take it forever, because as soon as you stop, biology reasserts itself. The only sure cure for balding is castration. As many have suggested: get the clippers and live with it.

(balding from age 21)

I'm in my late twenties and my hair started to go about 5 years ago, i recently bit the bullet and got a 0.5 all over, it was pretty soul destroying to realise i'll never have hair again but it's not hard to see the positives, i don't waste £10 a month on hair cuts and it's really easy to maintain.

Once you get over the mental thing it's easy, my friends and colleagues made lots of comments but that stopped after a week, i even quite like it now. Don't get me wrong i'd love to have my hair back, but i can live without it, hair isn't all it's cracked up to be :p

Why are you a bodybuilder?

In a completely non evil way I think Morba is the last person you could call vain when it comes to his weight lifting he just likes shifting massive weight and eating krispy kremes ;)

I just want to point out, I do have hair, I'm not bald, I've just always had very fine/soft hair, which naturally looks a bit thinner at the back.

I probably won't bothered now, but I appreciate the serious replies.

Don't worry slap head I'm sure the hot model won't dump you because you are going bald. It's amazing how far you are already punching above your weight without worrying about hair loss :p

HAHA! I am punching about my weight, I'll admit to that!

I'm not calling him vain but he obviously likes to have his body a certain way. What's wrong with wanting to have hair on your head? It isn't vanity.

How old are you? I started receeding in my early 20s. Although I still have a decent amount of hair (i.e. too much to call me bald, but not enough to say I've got a full head of hair), I am very much balding/receeding a la male pattern baldness.

I have to say that I never styled my hair, only went to hairdressed to get it shortned, for me, vanity is a very non event for me. Don't care if people think I'm badly dressed, ugly or whatever.

However, I'm not dismissing it at all - everyone is different, and if vanity is the main reason, it's entirely fair and a valid reason in my eyes. Whatever you decide to do, hope it works out for you and you feel happier about yourself. :)

Scarey - You may find it worth while to start something like propecia or regaine before it gets any worse, prevention is better than cure no? :)

Freefaller, Im 26, started noticing thinning around 18-19.

I suppose it is a "vanity" thing, altho I would not say I was vain...

But yes, doing something about it, even despite it not totally fixing the issue, has made me feel a lot more confident :D

all it will do is make your hair look thicker a bit, then as soon as it washes out or wears off its back to being bald. Best advice is to just shave it short, i was gutted when I started going thin as I had long hair at the time and was obsessed with it but you do get used to it eventually

Getting bigger is a by product of eating lots of food and lifting heavy things. I love eating, I love lifting heavy things.

I couldnt be a body builder if i wanted to, love food too much :D

People saying that it's purely a vanity thing, I don't really see your point. What's inherently wrong with vanity? That it shows a lack of confidence? Well I have news for you, not everyone is equally confident in their appearance. Morba can you honestly tell me you've never woken up, looked at your enormous bald head in the mirror, and thought 'flip what I wouldn't give for some nice thick locks'? Not even before you came to terms with the hair loss?

Different people have different mental resilience for different things. Some find it easier to deal with looking bald than others. Those same people might be extremely confident in public speaking, whereas the comfortably bald guy might be a gibbering wreck. Just because you are comfortable with a lack of hair, doesn't mean the next guy is nor indeed necessarily should be.

For example I had my eyes lasered for a few different reasons, one of which I'll admit, though not the major reason, was vanity (as I didn't like the way I looked with glasses).

I personally am not bothered about having crap hair. It doesn't affect me, for whatever reason. However I can understand those that it does affect, having gone through the phase of hating seeing myself in glasses.

Never.
I've looked at myself and wished I was taller. Didn't go and find a rack to stretch myself though.

I started shaving mine off before I was going bald. Receeding was the worst that I had, for a change I shaved it off. When I let it grow for a few weeks you can see how bald I am, all it does is remind me to shave it again :p

That's completely different. Glasses or laser treatment has a positive affect on your vision. This is not in the mind, it is an issue with your eyes.

Vain :p. Illustrating my point, though, you're the guy that wishes he was taller. OP's the guy that wishes he had more hair. I'm the guy that hates how he looks in specs.

Part of the reason was vanity though as I said above.

I had my eyes lasered, but I loved wearing glasses. It was for the convenience, playing sports, riding my bike, and in general I was spending so much on eye care that the cost has helped off-set that cost and it's just much easier not to have to deal with it. Furthermore, my eyesight is better now than with glasses or contacts. :)

I agree, there's nothing wrong with vanity at all. It affects people in different ways, and for some people being short is an issue, for others, being bald is that issue etc... :) However, on the flip-side you must also accept that some people genuinely don't have a problem with being short/tall/bald/covered in hair etc... :)
