***Official Shogun Total War 2 Thread***

Also, I've just made the Shogunate my vassal... Don't suppose this makes me immune to realm divide? Anyway, it's nice to have Kyoto taken without having to fight it out for the citadel.

Got this today and first impressions are good. Think it might take me a while to get used to the camera controls though as I'm so used to playing FPS games.

Be nice if we could get some more people in the clan guys. Online is a tad buggy atm, but tis really cool. You level up and can customise your avatar and army etc, give it ago. OcUK is the clan, if you're in the steam group then it will come up. Me and my housemate have joined and been doing some 2vs2, but fun if we could get some 4vs4 going!

For those who wanted a screenshot of my realm map, I'll try and do one tonight. When I got in, I still wasn't sure what to do, but then one of my allies decided to break our trade agreement, so I went ape**** on his nearest provinces. Took over half of his lands and now the left hand side of the map is almost pure black - but my notoriety bar is almost full. I can feel Realm Divide coming, so I stopped and pulled back. Sadly, the Hojo and Takeda have now declared war on me, so I've got plenty to keep me busy - might just defend for a while and avoid RD, but wipe them out :D

I'm finding the AI very polite: it always tells me it hates me and wants everyone in my immediate family dead before actually attacking. :D

What's this realm divide people keep mentioning?

It's where once you reach a certain status with the Shogunate (when they perceive you as a potential threat of becoming Shogun), all the rest of the clans unite and declare war on you

Would be great if I could find some online battles - tried searching for naval battles and couldn't find any!

I have a dual core laptop with a 4670 gpu that is quite capable of running Empires in mid-high detail. Will Shogun be able to run on this? Does it look could enough with detail low?

Thats because naval battles are terrible ;) It's really buggy atm but they are patching it "within a week" apparently. Shocking how it's the norm to ship unfinished games these days but I don't think they anticipated the popularity of online.

SP is fine though, me and my housemate have started a multiplayer campaign too which is fun.

Really learning the hard way that generals are extremely weak! I was so used to using my general's cav to flank the enemy in previous TW games. Now they are rubbish!

Edit: Rubbish in combat, anyway.

I find them too valuable anyway - their effect on army moral is a lot higher than previous games I've found. I try to keep them just behind my line to keep as many units in their feild of influence as poss!

Mine are a little stronger now - I concentrate on Melee defence and attack upgrades and, unlike most other players it seems, ignore the bow and shooting aspect. I find as long as I'm careful with where I put him it's much more effective with my battle style (I can use them as a cav backup for my front line).

Problem is with the generals, they need to be really close to the troops which generally puts them in harms way. The AI has a habit of attacking with them though. My favoruite part of this game is still the agent system. Getting impatient for Dx11!

Generals are good at flanking archers and katana infantry as long as they're not targeting you. At one point I had to sacrifice my damiyo, so I sent it alone at a stack that had 2 or 3 archers units. I charged it at them, but the bodyguard and general were completely annhiliated by fire arrows just a few feet before reaching the enemy :D

Btw if you're expecting DX11 to be your saving grace, I wouldn't get your hopes up too much. If they program it well, then yes it'll increase performance.. but so far, who has programmed DX11 well?

I just want all the eye candy :p - expecting a performance decrease though. Actually, what I want most is AA.
