My old Ati 1950 Pro is dieing a slow death (screen corrupts when playing video).

Just wondering what is a quiet gfx card but reasonably well powered for around £150-200?

Most important factor is quietness really, I play games like F1 2010...but not that often. PC mostly used for internet work.

F1 2010 so you might consider nvidia as it seems to run well on my 480 but the sound of the 480 wouldn't really be what you're looking for. What about one of the 4 series hawk cards by msi they would be quieter and come in under budget.

He asked for for a quiet video card not a loud one all high end cards unless water cooled will make noise.

If you want a quiet video card I think you can get a HD6850 that's passively cooled but I'm not sure so it might be time to do some Google-fu.

Edit

Meh. I saw a thread on this a while ago and the card I was thinking of is the Powercolor HD6850 SCS3. There was a press release about this back in November but a quick look shows this hasn't made it to market yet which shows it may have been little more then a pipe dream (a heat pipe dream, lol) and another one of those novelty cards you read about that never make it to Europe (cards like the Radeon HD5770X2, Asus GTX480X2 etc, etc).

If your budget can support it then I would suggest going for this card.

The GTX 560ti is a nice performer at stock, but this one has a nice overclock and an aftermarket cooler - so it is rather quiet.

Have a look at this review which shows the noise levels at load.

personally better of with a GTX 460, practically same noise levels as a GTX 560 and the gigabyte one is £124.99 can't go wrong since you only play F1 2010.

My gfx was/is a Powercolor ati 1950 with the accelero cooling, now that really was silent under load or not your just could not hear it.

The graphics card still works for 2D stuff, i.e. browsing web. But as soon as the card is stressed, for example playing a video, I get strange bars on the screen (can't see anything). And sometimes windows says it has recovered from 'video card' related problem. Already tried updating drivers, it crashes when trying to do that.

Going to put in old gfx just to check this is the problem before ordering. Could really do with new bundle as well though as I am still running Q6600 at stock (overclock not stable) I guess a new higher gfx card could possibly be wasted on this system.

What about the gigabyte gtx480 doc thats on offer atm? Has an aftermarket cooler on it with three fans, and is by account quite quiet

Checking suggestions out.

It definitely is the gfx card, put old gfx card in it and videos played fine.

Tried cleaning all the dust from the ATI 1950 card, I must have done something (was wearing latex gloves) now I get some bios beeps indicating gfx card is well and truly *****d.

Ordering tonight or tomorrow.

dont wear gloves period when dealing with hardware but guess it doesn't matter since it was screwed anyway.

I just bought a Gigabyte GTX 480 SE for £202. As crazy as it seems recommending a 480 as a quiet card, the aftermarket cooler on this thing is great. At stock speeds it's super fast and barely audible, the noise only becomes noticeable when overclocked and even then, it never gets annoying. As good value as the 460/560 ti are, I think this is the best value to performance ratio around.
