*** I LOVE ENGLAND/UK - MY HOMELAND! ***

and I'm just rubbing it in as I'm feeling a little mischievous :D:D:D

Stang from LAX then get the hell out of there on the first leg to Laguna Beach/San Diego.

Really won't want to come back, Fox, I think we both know how that felt around October time :(;)

Go to Inglewood it's lovely

We live in a country where religious fundamentalism is frowned upon, rather than embraced - indeed, religion itself is generally seen to be something we pay lip service to.

This alone makes this country worth living in.

And to all those of you saying it's a ****hole and I'll move abroad as soon as I have the money - please do. You'll soon realise the grass is never greener; take it from someone who has lived in the US, Oz and Canada at various times during his life. They all have as many problems as the UK does, and they are generally the same problems.

The trouble with US, Canada and Oz are that they are all still British people. Need to go somewhere where the people are not dirty colonials.

Have not read any of this thread, I really dont need to to state the fact that i have no pride in the random loaction i entered the world in, this is for me stupidity. Identifying myself with a set of social and cultural rules is completely abhorant, and whats more lays at the center of many of the things wrong with so called society these days.

The NHS, some of the finest universities in the world, possibly the best capital city in the world, there is so much great music to be found, we have many fabulous restaurants and food to experience, it's a pretty damn good country.

I grew up in Somerset, and it's beautiful. The South West is my favourite part of the UK, from what I have seen and experienced.

I should also point out that I am not patriotic in the slightest, these are just things that I think are good about the UK, the country I was born and grew up in.

Off the top of my head:

Language
History
Perspective
Stability
Music & the creative arts in general
Most importantly though, opportunity.

I thought it was obvious that I was talking about this part?

I think having a large flag of your own country on your wall (regardless of where you're from) is lame, but the second part is beyond lame.

If feeling a sense of pride when seeing my countries flag is lame, then yes, I am lame.

People tend to see the gated communities on tv and with the pool and local shop and think yeah thats great

Sorry to hijack the thread but...

how did you get to immigrate to the US, marriage?

Nope, was already married to a Brit. Bought a business under which then gave me an E2. Quickly switched over to an employment based visa once I got here, which does lead to perm residency. Unlike an E2. Cutting a very long story short, hopefully towards the end of this yr, I'll have a green card, meaning I'm home free. It's been over 6yrs of not knowing your future and a huge financial gamble that so far is paying off ! If you wanna move out here. Marry an American... Its a lot easier.. ;)

But I never forget my roots. I'm proud to be British. England is one of the best places in the world to live. It's just that my standard of living is so much higher here than would be there. I could never give my kids the same upbringing in the UK as they get here. Family life is more sorted here. By a country mile.

But you are earning good money, so can provide that, what's the hospital bills like?

America is a great place to live if you have the wealth, you can live like a millionaire.

I love my home country. Beautiful scenery, great cities, wonderful people...what more would you want?

Anyway, enough about Scotland..onto England. I only ever lived in London but visited most of the rest of it. London bored me to tears. It's grey, dirty, depressing, expensive and overcrowded. Most of the rest is OK and the most of the people are nice enough.

I can't see myself coming back from Sydney any time soon though.

What do you like in this country
The NHS.

For all its faults I think it's incredible that we have a healthcare system that does so much for so many and asks for so little in return.

Aside from that I don't think there's anything unique to England that makes me proud of the place. If it weren't for the language barriers I think I would be just as happy living in any other developed country, if not more so.
