I am in the process of building a future proof gaming PC. Not really after the ultimate - although its quickly heading that way! Having said that i really only play WoW, World of Tanks and thats about it. Assuming the performance is up to it i would like to maybe expand that.

Spec so far :-
Antec 1200 case.
Win 7 OEM 64 bit system builder pack
WD 500 GB HDD
WD 160GB backup HDD
Xfi titanium 7.1
Creative 7.1 speaker system.

Proposed spec :-
Sandygate I7 2600k
Gigabyte motherboard
8GB RAM
2 x Corsair force 60GB SSD's in RAID
560Ti with a potential to go to twin 560ti - but that could be overkill.

Any suggestions around that at all? All input would be welcome.

the 2600k is usles to u, get t eh 2500k and sdave yourself some money, also why 8 gig of ram? get 4 and save some money, with the money save you can get a single bigger ssd, or a better gfx card

Just been looking at the 2500K, this thats a sensible idea. 4GB of Ram should be fine then, if i were to go for 6GB would that be possible? Just looking to improve over my old systems 4GB.

I was looking at using 2 smaller SSDs to set up in RAID - as i understood that should/could/would improve access speed further.

And Dammit - i used to work in the SandyGATE area of Sheffield years ago, still confuses me :p

Doing RAID with SSDs will remove the ability to use TRIM which will degrade your SSDs quicker and make them considerably slower.

I think intels rapid storage offers RAID TRIM but if its good or not I don't know.

SSDs are quick enough that you don't need RAID

You may be able to run 2x2gb for 4gb then in the 2 other DIMM slots get 2x1gb dual channel stuff?

Not sure if it works as I haven't seen or heard of many people doing it.

yes but sandybridge doesnt do triple channel memory, the x58 i7's do triple channel and i think the upcoming z68? boards do quad channel.
its either 4 or 8 gb but personally id go for 4 and save the money unless like i said your using ram hungy programs

Just to clarify I was talking dual channel :)

Just go for SB and get dual channel. Unless you're doing very RAM intensive stuff you probably won't notice any difference

To be honest, i think you are right. My old system was 4GB but with an old Intel Core 2 Quad core Q8200 2.33 GHZ, with a 512GB GTS250, so i think i can go with 4GB ram and improve over processor and GFX card.
