580gtx corruption, metro 2033 unplayable :(

hi all, ever since getting my sexy 580 gtx phantom ive had a few problems. To keep this short ill just talk about the main one. Metro2033 if u crank up to full graphics i get terrible 3d shapes spinning around my screen, hard to describe see screenshots below. Another thing that sometimes happens before this is the players hands will go blurry and then the game or driver will crash. Once it even activated this stupid throttle protection the 580 has putting clocks at half speed and murdering the fps. Another time there seemed to be some kind of memory leak and gpuz showed max vram at 2800mb! (1600mb noramlly 1920x1200)

Any ideas i can try to fix this? i love metro and was looking forward to playing through it again maxed out. I played the game on my old 260gtx without no problems but obviously no dx11. Also i have just upgraded to new mobo and i7 and still the problems there.

Seems to stop if i turn graphics from Very high back down to high, but this is not what i paid for a 580 gtx for! Also have seen similar things like the gun blurring out in crysis warhead.

I dont really want to rma the card because ill end up spending even more on a 590gtx lol. So any ideas i can try will be appreciated.

I have recently formatted/reinstalled win7 and metro. Temps are all fine, card is not overclocked, cpu is but have tried at stock speed and same story. have also tried a load of different drivers inc the beta ones

so... sound like a dodgy card? have spoken to ocuk support and they said "hmm strange sounds a bit corrupted!" but have played hours of other games with no problems, tho these are probly not as demanding on the graphics as metro (warhead,crysis2demo,gta4,homefront)

HELP!

is there any patches for the game you could try different drivers.
does all of your games go like this? if they are i would rma the card...

update the game doh didnt think of that, will try now
RE: other games, not had time to play much recently

homefront 100% no problems
crysis2 demo 100% no problems
gta4 Recognises the 3000mb vram but says graphics limits are reached and wont let me change option without the -norestriction command line, then works 100% after
crysis warhead Had the blurry gun right after giving up on metro, but then played for couple of hours with only one problem, couple of times when light ray shone through trees it went a bit buggy

ok there was an update, and it has helped out a lot. But theres still corruption and its not what id call playable.

no one else had these problems on 500 series nvidia?

I have had that issue during Batman Arkham Asylum and a few other games but it turned out to be the gfx driver.(using 267.59 at the moment and haven't seen the problem for a while)

There was a link posted with a modified .inf file recently that works great especially in dragon age 2.

thanks for the idea sycho i got the 267.59 drivers working but ended up with the same problem.

Interesting though, the problem happened at different parts of the test level ive been using ("the chase"). There were artifacts (im going to call it arifacts but its not like artifacts ive seen previously from overclocking) right at the start when they dont normally happen till 2 mins in. However the rest of the game was ok till the gun blurred in the usual place and the game crashed.

This got me wondering if this is driver related. I spied another beta driver id not used and gave that ago. It didnt fix it but caused different behaviour yet again. Got to the bit the game normally crashes without many problems, but after a cutscene i dont normally make it too, the screen went mad with "artifacts".

If anyone reads this who has played through metro2033 on a 580 gtx and very high settings, please could you let me know what drivers you used.

Have you tried raising the voltage one notch?

Also the Steam forums could have a fix/solution usually good for this stuff there.

2 notches didnt help and 3 throttled the card instantly on load.
Have been looking everywhere including steam and only really seeing ATI users with similar problems. I think it could be RMA time. Some of these bugs have popped up in other games and also i have a nvidia demo that just produces a screen of artifacts.

Depends on how old that psu is....though to be honest i would RMA it if it's doing in other games with other drivers.

I hav a similar problem with Company of Heroes. It's DX10 (Shaders set ot ULTRA instead of High) has long been plagued with issues, so I am not sure if this is my system or a CoH problem. This is on a GTx 460 at 920/1840/4200 @1.087v with temps around 49 C

No other game has any problem including Crysis Warhead.

Downclocking to stock doesnt help the problems. Moment I try DX10 I get mad glitches. Random ingame objects appear all over the screen and glitch around rapidly.
If I switch to DX9 then there is no problem with everything maxed out. I get 60 FPS constant with VSync turned on and everything maxed + 8xQ CSAA @1920x1080.

To top it off these issues started recently. It used to work fine on DX10 soon after installing the game. Then during 1 sessions the map just went black
and after that game whenenver I try to play it on DX10 these glitches happen.

Any thoughts?

Try dropping the clocks back if you can't up the voltage.

I'm using the standard 266 drivers and the games run fine with no artifacts on my 580. If it's throttling it sounds like a heat problem. Try running with the case open.

The Asgard: dont think temps are the enemy here, this is happening with the card @ 60c-50c and lower. Beside i have a antec lanboy air, so temps are actually higher with the case open! I have 2 air penetrator fans blowing straight onto the card. My understanding was that the throttle or "over current protect" was more about power consumption than heat anyway? Its why i wondered about my psu, which is a few years old now, only 2-3 though. Also I tried with 10% less clocks, if anything it was worse!
Heres a link to a quick video, first clip shows the blurred gun and some flickers, second clip is in a cutscene seconds later, but the same thing happens ingame and looks worse! And below is GpuZ straight after that video was made, max temp was 55c

Still not got anywhere here :(

have bought the game through steam now so is fully updated, have tried newest drivers plus some more old ones. The problems occur ONLY in very high settings.

Another thing is if i rma the card i have tried the benchmarks ocuk use to test and they all work fine so far (except for some odd small flickering shadows and the screen flashing blue once).

This is really doing my head in now, all i want is to play the game with full eyecandy :(:(

any more ideas anyone? plzzzzzzzz

If its worse or no better with reduced clocks it's RMA time.
