I've been without a 'weekend' car since I sold my old Astra turbo in late 2008. I'm looking for something fun which handles well and has good performance.

I don't mind any suggestion as long as it's fun, fast and holds the road well. Would prefer a two seater but again that's not a must.

Don't care about age really as £5K isn't going to get me anything new.

Originally I wanted a Dax Rush type car but they seem to be a little out of budget.

Will be used on the odd track day but mostly as a change from driving the Mondeo.

Spec me?

MK Indys are cheaper than Dax Rush. Don't know if you can get one for £5k, but they wont be much more.

MX-5 is a good shout for a more useable 2 seater. Get something nice for that.

And as I am bias, Clio 182 :)

An MX5 is something I'd buy with a budget of upto £3500 or so, but above that you can pick up much cooler, faster cars...

Mk4 Supra twin turbo (auto though, for that budget you won't get a TT manual, but plenty of N/A manuals...)

Who'd have thunk it, but for that money you can own a Maserati! A bi-turbo, and even the occasional very cheap Ghibli.

Lexus Soarer 2.5TT manual (manuals = rare).

Put it this way, if I had £5K to spend on a car it'd be a HARD decision, and an MX5 (unless thoroughly turbo'd) wouldn't even be on the list.
