Girlfriend has been offered a 2005 1.3 Hyundai Getz for around £1,700. Once careful owner, full service history and new tyres. MOT'd and Taxed until October. Is this a good deal? We have up to £2,000 for a cheap and reliable commute car. I cycle and know next to nothing about cars. Is this a good deal? Are there any other cars to be considered like a fiesta? Insurance seems to be £3,300 also

thats a lot of insurance for a car that couldnt do anything any damage!

Nope, 23 year old female just passed test so obviously 0 no claims bonus. Any other cars wort looking at in that price range?

Price of the car sounds reasonable if it's in decent condition, but the insurance sounds ridiculous.

Go-compare. Any suggestions to help lower the price? The car will do around 12,000 miles a year mainly commuting to and from work.

That insurance is stupidly priced! I would call a couple of places up and get a direct quote as should be <£1K for a 23 year old girl with no claims on a car like that surely?

I must have said this about 100 times now, try the admiral group with some good named drivers parents with ncb I bet it will be cheaper than 3300. Everybody I have tried it for before it's been a lot less!

Sounds good. Would it affect her Dad's ncb if she made a claim (first year driving!)

If she made a claim and her father was a named driver on her policy it would have zero effect on him whatsoever.

No thats a bad qoute, as I've said in the past couple of weeks, you need to look harder.

My friends daughter (17) passed her test last month, bought a 2001 KA to drive around in, moaning about how much he is going to have to pay to insure her car and he cant find anything (just using go compare) less than £1200.
I told him to try harder and actually ring people.

Result after an hour?

£700 fully comp with admiral.

When I got the ST, Admiral were the cheapest at around £2.5k, but adding my sister and my dad to it, knocked about £900 off it, even though they never drive it, lol. In contrast when I had the fiesta, ecar wanted an extra £60 from me to add my dad as a named driver.

Yeah It won't affect him unless he was the one driving. Try it with you on there mum dad aunt whoever really! I Can see it being less than £1500!
